Okay, call it what you want, but it's how I'm watching it from now on. Really, it's Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas's directorial output from the 70s, complete with the sequels and prequels they also directed. Except for the Star Wars movies, all the others in this film cycle feature Walter Murch on the sound design. There's no exact logic to it, but the Star Wars prequels are paired with Coppola's early Zoetrope movies including Godfather 1 and 2. Then for the original Star Wars trilogy it switches to Lucas's earliest movies with Zoetrope, to Apocalypse Now, which was a movie George abandoned, and finally the conclusions to the Godfather and Star Wars sagas. Really, I also just think these movies are swell and people deserve to enjoy them.
SUNDAY The Rain People (1969) The Godfather (1972)
MONDAY Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (1999) The Conversation (1974)
TUESDAY Star Wars: Attack of the Clones (2002) The Godfather Part II (1974)
WEDNESDAY Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (2005) THX 1138 (1971)
THURSDAY American Graffiti (1973) Star Wars: A New Hope (1977)
FRIDAY Apocalypse Now (1979) Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
SATURDAY The Godfather Coda (1990) Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983)

I really got hooked on those Qatsi films, beautiful stuff. I still haven't seen Strange Magic, but I really want to. It's pretty obscure from what I can tell.

It must have been really important to George. It's the last movie with a George Lucas writing credit, so you can't ignore that, and it's his first writing credit that wasn't based on a concept he came up with in the 70s. It really ends up in this list because it's the truth. It's nowhere near as good as American Graffiti, of course. It's a kid's movie, like Willow. Both movies have little people, fairies, love potions, etc. Neither of them are my favorite, though I do prefer Strange Magic between them. It's snappier, more satisfying visually, and it's slightly less generic. It's not the most epic ending to this marathon, but it's a sweet note to depart with, especially after 40+ hours of mostly oppressive films, and Naqoyqatsi just looping all the chaos, corruption, and violence, magnifying and vomiting it all back at you like some echoing breathless post-apocalyptic technological time tunnel.

I figured I'd just scrape up the rest of Coppola and Lucas's filmographies, leaving space for Megalopolis to round it out.

Adding Coppola's first three movies rounds the number out to 42, or 14x3. That makes three movies every day for two weeks. Can it be done?

DAY TWO The Rain People (1969) THX 1138 (1971) The Godfather (1972)
DAY THREE American Graffiti (1973) Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (1999) The Conversation (1974)
DAY FOUR Star Wars: Attack of the Clones (2002) The Godfather Part II (1974) Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (2005)
DAY FIVE Star Wars: A New Hope (1977) Apocalypse Now (1979) Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
DAY SIX Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) One from the Heart (1982) Koyaanisqatsi (1982)
DAY SEVEN The Outsiders (1983) Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983) Rumble Fish (1983)
DAY EIGHT Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) The Cotton Club (1984) Howard the Duck (1986)
DAY NINE Peggy Sue Got Married (1986) Gardens of Stone (1987) Powaqqatsi (1988)
