A lot of movies could be on this list including the Kurosawa movies Lucas and Spielberg helped get released, The Land Before Time, Body Heat, Latino, Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters, Powaqqatsi, and even Dragonslayer which Lucas has credit for being involved for the making of. But I left them off because they don't exactly fit the brand or image. He's either completely uncredited, wasn't involved creatively, or seems to otherwise want to distance himself from them. For example, The Land Before Time is missing from the Lucasfilm website. Twice Upon a Time remains featured on the current Lucasfilm website, even though he reportedly wasn't involved much in its creation. Maybe people at Lucasfilm just really like it. I know I do.
The "Special Thanks" to Lucas on Return to Oz and Jurassic Park really do feel like an indicator that he had some sort of creative input and allowed his stamp of approval on the final product.
That being said, there begs to be a watch list of these other independent-type films that Lucas helped create along with his other director friends, for our personal reference. I know I'm looking forward to seeing the entire Qatsi trilogy. I'm actually mad at myself and my friends for either not knowing about it, or not telling me.
Twice Upon a Time (1983) Howard the Duck (1986) Labyrinth (1986) Willow (1988) Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988) Radioland Murders (1994) Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999) Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002) Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005) THX 1138 (1971) Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) The Godfather (1972) Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) American Graffiti (1973) Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977) More American Graffiti (1979) Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983) Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) Return to Oz (1985) Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) Jurassic Park (1993) Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) Red Tails (2012) Double Victory: The Tuskegee Airmen at War (2012) Strange Magic (2015) Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015) Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017) Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker (2019) Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)

The "Special Thanks" to Lucas on... Jurassic Park really do feel like an indicator that he had some sort of creative input and allowed his stamp of approval on the final product. Lucas took over post-production duty on Jurassic Park when Spielberg decided to work on Schindler's List full-time.

And of course, there's also this. George Lucas is revealed to be an alien in Men in Black (1997), the worm guys speak Huttese, and the bug in the Edgar suit is a lot like Dr. Walter Jenning from Howard the Duck.
Edit: Well, apparently the worm guys aren't really speaking Huttese, that's just a rumor. Sounds close enough to me though lol

I scaled it way back. There's nothing really essential about these movies set in the 30s and 40s, but somehow they fit the aesthetic. And The Godfather really was the missing piece here. It drives home that this is an epic about fathers and sons.
Radioland Murders (1994) Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999) Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002) Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005) THX 1138 (1971) The Godfather (1972) American Graffiti (1973) Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977) Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983) Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988)

I added WALL·E. Is it any coincidence that its running time is 1:38:11? The list stands at 31 films. A full month's worth of movies, one a day. The best way to watch Star Wars in a month like March.
Twice Upon a Time (1983) Howard the Duck (1986) Labyrinth (1986) Willow (1988) Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988) Radioland Murders (1994) Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999) Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002) Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005) THX 1138 (1971) Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) The Godfather (1972) Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) American Graffiti (1973) Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977) More American Graffiti (1979) Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983) Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) Return to Oz (1985) Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) Jurassic Park (1993) Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) WALL·E (2008) Red Tails (2012) Strange Magic (2015) Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015) Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017) Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker (2019) Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)

BOLD signifies the one true canon for me, the Lucas saga, the essential viewing. Everything else is secondary. Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom MenaceStar Wars: Tales of the Jedi (Dooku episodes) Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones Star Wars: Clone Wars Volume I Star Wars: The Clone Wars Star Wars: Clone Wars Volume II Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi I've pretty much given up on the Disney movies, and their shows other than Obi-Wan. Mandalorian was enjoyable for a little while, but now it feels like empty fanservice. The Disney productions lack the heart of Lucas' saga, for me. And that heart was the story of one man, Anakin Skywalker. I include Obi-Wan because it touches on the story of Anakin.

I've never seen Red Tails or Strange Magic, both of which interest me greatly, especially the latter because it looks like prequel-esque CGI weirdness. I've been meaning to watch that forever. My interest was piqued by your other thread, where you mentioned the films that inspired the Star Wars saga. I know about Kurosawa and Flash Gordon, but what are other films you would recommend, especially for a prequel fanatic?

Off the top of my head, I know that Lucas was inspired by The Searchers and The Godfather for certain sequences in the prequels. There's also a whole slew of movies that were referenced in the prequels that are featured in Rick Worley's priceless youtube video essay How to Watch Star Wars Part 1: The Prequels Are Better Movies Than You Deserve. youtu.be/vqnjzVX8EKA

Alphaville is a great one, and Metropolis for sure. You'll be amazed at Dambusters if you haven't seen it yet. Metropolis is on YouTube in its entirety. Or, the most complete existing version, anyway. youtu.be/W_4no842TX8

I believe Apocalypse Now and Saving Private Ryan were also mentioned as inspirations for the Kashyyyk sequence in RotS. I'm going to rewatch that video to jog my memory.

You can fill up pages of movies to watch! I also recommend Koyannisqatsi for some of that pure cinema stuff that Lucas loves. That's free on Tubi, if you can get that in your country. Fantasia comes to mind also.

I would currently go with this: Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi - Justice Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi - Choices Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi - The Sith Lord Star Wars: Episode II - Attack Of the Clones Star Wars: Clone Wars - Volume One Star Wars: The Clone Wars Star Wars: Clone Wars - Volume Two Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith Solo: A Star Wars Story Star Wars Rebels Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi Star Wars: The Mandalorian
Obi-Wan didn't do it for me anymore on a rewatch, and instead The Mandalorian hooked me back in. Filoni does have a solid track record. The Dooku episodes of TotJ are the closest the post-Lucas material has come to reaching his work for me.

Myself, am about to rock Lucas' preferred, vocalized order: I through VI. Honestly, this will only be the second time (in a long time) I've ever sat down with the saga from Gungans to Ewoks. I'm actually feeling pretty good about it.
