You know, even though I saw the OT first, I don't have any memory of the big twist leaving any impression on me. It might be because my mom told me who Vader was the first time I watched Episode IV? My mom is a casual fan so that was probably not a sin in her mind.

stampidhd280proEveryone knows the Twist in TESB this Obsession with watching the OT before the PT because of Spoilers is Ridiculous! For me it's not about spoilers, it's more about the date of the films. The OT will always look like films from the 70s because, they are. If you want, THX works as a connecting point between trilogies. The Director's Cut of THX 1138 achieves the look of an experimental film of the early 2000s, it's kind of timeless in that way. This has always been the glue of my viewing orders, except I realize now, the Star Wars story always really began with the original 1977 film. The prequels are their own experiment. And it's a successful one, in that once you see the PT, the OT carries the weight of it. Return of the Jedi will never be the conclusion of a three part story to me anymore. It feels like a long time coming. But like I said, it's a farce to pretend that Revenge of the Sith isn't George's swan song. It's not a satisfying ending, because, like THX 1138, it might seem bleak overall, but it leaves you with a glimmer of hope. Speaking of bleakness, it occured to me that Lucas's filmography, and this Lucasfilm Anthology viewing order, as you could call it, really does have quite a bittersweet, if not pessimistic tone. I had to reinstate Willow (1988) to even things out. Even the funniest, most upbeat of the movies, Radioland Murders (1994), is full of gallows humor. Jeff Bridges may carry Tucker with his optimistic grin, but almost all of these movies really are about the little guy persevering AFTER being (nearly) utterly squashed. So, if you insist on viewing the Star Wars films in episodic order, you could start the cycle on Sunday. But I wouldn't: THURSDAY American Graffiti (1973) Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977) FRIDAY More American Graffiti (1979) Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) SATURDAY Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983) Howard the Duck (1986) SUNDAY Willow (1988) Tucker: The Man and his Dream (1988) MONDAY Radioland Murders (1994) Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999) TUESDAY Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002) Red Tails (2012) WEDNESDAY Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005) THX 1138 (1971)

Well, here we are again.
This time, it should be the last time. But who knows. My aim was to cover every full length feature that Lucas either insisted on being made, or gave his blessing to. That means the two Disney prequels were reinstated. Yes, Lucas even directed one scene in Solo, and by all accounts any guidance that George gave was included in Rogue One. And supposedly he enjoys both movies.
I've also added a single entry from the Indiana Jones series. Again, to leave Dr. Jones out of it entirely wouldn't only be dishonest, but it would also be robbery. And really, The Temple of Doom is just irresistible. It's the only entry with a child protagonist and a gratuitous song and dance number. So it only makes sense.
I've also added the Jim Henson/Lucasfilm classic, Labyrinth, and Walter Murch's Return to Oz. Both of these movies add a bit of magic and strangeness back into the film cycle where it was previously lacking. And of course, George saved Oz from being hijacked by Disney, and spent time on the set with his friend as it was being filmed. So while these aren't Lucas's films or even stories or based on his characters, it's part of Lucas's own story as a filmmaker during the 80s where he spent much of his career not making his own movies, but in helping his friends realize their visions.
There remains the absence of the three animated features in George's filmography: Twice Upon a Time, The Land Before Time, and Strange Magic. For varying reasons, I just don't know where they would fit, but they're certainly worth watching and discussing.
So here's the latest, and by far the longest, iteration of the Star Wars Lucasfilm cycle "THX Method" viewing order:
DAY ONE Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) American Graffiti (1973) Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977)
DAY TWO More American Graffiti (1979) Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
DAY THREE Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983) Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) Return to Oz (1985)
DAY FOUR Labyrinth (1986) Howard the Duck (1986) Willow (1988)
DAY FIVE Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988) Radioland Murders (1994) Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999)
DAY SIX Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002) Red Tails (2012)
DAY SEVEN Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005) THX 1138 (1971) Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
Thoughts? Anyone?

Very creative! This would be a fun week if implemented. And if you're around other Lucasphiles throughout - sheer bliss!
Some of these titles I haven't seen and their involvement in your unique stew compels me to finally check them off my watchlist. So, thanks for that!

Had to switch the day order around. I jumped the gun. You just can't end on Solo. Doesn't work. So, this is the same sequence. Just different starting and ending suggestions. Let Lucas have his episodes on their respective days. This also helps with the tone. Beginning and ending with magic instead of shoving it all in the middle, which I suppose parallels Lucas's vision for the saga anyway. I really don't think this can be improved upon:
DAY ZERO Labyrinth (1986) Howard the Duck (1986) Willow (1988)
DAY ONE Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988) Radioland Murders (1994) Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999)
DAY TWO Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002) Red Tails (2012)
DAY THREE Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005) THX 1138 (1971) Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
DAY FOUR Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) American Graffiti (1973) Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977)
DAY FIVE More American Graffiti (1979) Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
DAY SIX Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983) Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) Return to Oz (1985)

stampidhd280pro RTO was mismarketed by Disney people were excepting a fun fantasy film like the 1939 film what they got instead was a Dark and Scary film with IMHO the Palpatine of Oz in The Nome King (Who i think is more evil than TWWOTW herself!), because of it's failure all the Oz films we've gotten since have been retreads of the 39 film (I love the 39 film but there's more to Oz than that) and Walter Murch's Directorial career went nowhere (Except for an episode of TCW) a shame really.

Okay, I added Raiders of the Lost Ark (1998) and Double Victory: The Tuskegee Airmen at War (2012) to the mix. Temple of Doom felt kind of lonely, and I felt like there needed to be a documentary represented, and I think Double Victory is the only feature length documentary in Lucas's filmography. Somehow Raiders and Double Victory both fit exactly where they need to be. I can't wait to actually play this marathon out. I have a feeling it's going to be a highly satisfying experience. The more I worked on it, the more it seemed to fall into place. There really is an internal logic to it. It's like poetry. It rhymes. Etc.
DAY ZERO Twice Upon a Time (1983) Labyrinth (1986) Howard the Duck (1986) Willow (1988)
DAY ONE Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988) Radioland Murders (1994) Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999)

Okay, I added The Godfather (1972) into the mix. It seemed to be the missing piece in all of this. And it adds quite a bit of weight. The Lucas-Coppola-Murch trilogy, you know what I'm sayin? Tying it all together! THX, Godfather, American Graffiti. Supposedly Lucas convinced Coppola to direct Godfather, and he has credited work in the movie. I also had to fiddle around with the ordering of DAY TWO, putting the documentary after AOTC and Red Tails, just for tonal reasons. Perhaps most of you either don't care or think I'm crazy. Well, I'm not! I'm solving the greatest riddle in all of Star Wars Fandom! Watch all 24 films in 7 days! 24/7 Order!
DAY TWO Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002) Red Tails (2012) Double Victory: The Tuskegee Airmen at War (2012)
DAY THREE Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005) THX 1138 (1971) Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) The Godfather (1972)
DAY FOUR Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) American Graffiti (1973) Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977)

Okay. I've stretched it out to two weeks which is a lot more realistic. Three to four movies every day is crazy. So now it's one, two, or three movies per day.
DAY ONE Twice Upon a Time (1983)
DAY TWO Labyrinth (1986) Howard the Duck (1986)
DAY THREE Willow (1988)
DAY FOUR Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988) Radioland Murders (1994) Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999)
DAY FIVE Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002)
DAY SIX Red Tails (2012) Double Victory: The Tuskegee Airmen at War (2012)
DAY SEVEN Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005) THX 1138 (1971) Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
DAY EIGHT The Godfather (1972)
DAY NINE Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) American Graffiti (1973) Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977)
DAY TEN More American Graffiti (1979)
DAY ELEVEN Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
DAY TWELVE Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983) Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)
DAY THIRTEEN Return to Oz (1985)
