As long as they don't do something stupid like resurrect Padme, I'm fine with her returning. She could be a different character entirely if she plays an alien or something. Haha. And uggghh. The Padme with knife idea and being a damsel in distress bullshit needs to die. I'm so glad that got cut. The fixation on that one baffles me.
In realtime, she could easily play one of the handmaidens - they all looked like Padmé, and survived Order 66. In the comics, one of these is known to have confronted Darth Vader. I'd agree that resurrecting a dead character is pure stupidity, as we all clearly saw in TROS. Padmé, Mace Windu and Palpatine are dead; period. It's either another character or flashbacks and visions.
We all know what flashbacks are. It's heartening to see my long-held idea of live action Clone Wars catching some momentum amongst fans commenting online. The other option, a vision or a hallucination, usually presents some alternative idea of the future, and is used as a device to inform the present.
I'm worried the Ahsoka series will just end up being live-action Rebels. I don't care for its side-characters, and one fears of them taking over the show as with Reva in Obi-Wan.
You're spot on too about the silly knife on Mustafar. I've always had a hard disagreement with Star Wars Theory and the yobs on Reddit on that one. Padmé's character was handled wonderfully in Episode III. I mean, who wasn't made to look helpless as Palpatine pulled the rug out?!

One of the reasons I think it was right to cut the knife idea from the final movie is that, even if Padme decides she can't go through with it and actually try to kill Anakin, the fact she has the knife on her gives Anakin real reason to distrust her. The entire point is that the Dark Lord has twisted Anakin's mind to the point where he distrusts even the people who care for him most.

Exactly, it doesn't make Padmé "badass", it makes her a killer, and that's not who she was. She'd fight back in self-defense very quickly, for sure, but that's a very different thing to an assassin. Anakin would have a legitimate reason for fighting back an assassin, which as you say, distracts from the whole point of the scene: a young man whose mind has been poisoned by a Sith Lord.
I get just as annoyed by these fans, whose conception of Star Wars is all about competing power levels and vague lightsabre fighting styles. Sometimes you have to grate your teeth in these moments.

To be fair to the Padme w/ Knife, idea, Obi-Wan IS the knife in that scene. Padme is just ignorant that she brought that particular knife along for the ride. It is when Anakin sees her with Obi-Wan that he freaks out and turns on her completely.
Now, that being said, her bringing the knife would be redundant in that case, because in Anakin's twisted mind, Obi-Wan is his legitimate reason to distrust Padme.
Now, if she did bring a knife and decided not to go through with it, she would only use the knife to defend herself, but again that is redundant because at most she will manage to draw some blood before he puts her out of commission or she is forced to flee. So that is really the most you are going to get out of the Padme with knife scenario.
However, Padme being a person who will fight if herself or an innocent is under threat, she might try and use the knife if her thought process is that letting him live will lead to the harm of many innocent people. However, the big problem here is that thematically this does not add up. George doesn't think that killing and the use of weapons are the solution (Luke throwing his lightsaber away anyone?). Hell, Padme doesn't even kill Nute Gunray when she has him at her mercy. And then when the Separatists are threatening to leave the Republic, she's adamant that diplomacy is the correct solution. She only fights when she is thrown in the arena. So yeah, the idea that she would even bring the knife for the purposes of assassination is totally nixed as it is truly out of character.
So, she might bring a weapon or a knife to defend herself (or at least have a backup plan if her diplomacy does not work out), but not really with the intention of killing Anakin. Her top priority would be to talk him out of it, which she tries to do. Only if he attacked her would she use the knife in self-defense. After that she could still be convinced that there is still good in him, and therefore still maintain her role as the one character who doesn't give up hope when everyone else does. That's the best I can do as devil's advocate. But, honestly, if she still lost the will to live after that, the Team Knife people would still be pissed.
The weird thing about Padme is that she both loses the will to live, yet remains hopeful that Anakin is still good regardless. The question is, did Padme not bring a weapon or a backup plan because for her, if she fails to talk Anakin out of it, a part of her doesn't want to live at that point, therefore, a weapon or backup plan isn't necessary to her?
Of course, that will encourage bad mom accusations, which has been the case already I believe.

This is really the sticking point for me. Due to the fact that Padme's conviction that there is still good in Anakin makes her the prototype for Episode 6 Luke, bringing a weapon to Mustafar would be like bringing the lightsaber into the cave on Dagobah.
In other words, George Lucas is a better screenwriter than the Internet. I can't believe I just had to type that sentence!

Dramatically, it makes no sense to keep Padmé alive past Episode III. What purpose does she serve, with her career dead, her husband as good as dead, and her children necessitated to go to foster families by the OT? None. Better to go out in a blaze of glory like so many of the Jedi Order did, in what was Lucas' final film and, for quite a while, the final Star Wars.
The fundamental problem with fanboys is that they prioritise the minutia of continuity over dramatic logic. Lucas was right to override this one, it is still possible for Leia to recall her mother through the Force.

Exactly. I am so glad he decided to have Padme bow out at the same time as the Republic and the Jedi. It makes it all so much more dramatically juicy.

I expect backlash to anything Disney Star Wars because that's just what the Internet does at this point.

So don't expect much Anakin, then?

I gotta say, as much as it seems like "live action Rebels" (an Ahsoka and whoever buddy movie series), the visuals do look top notch. Anakin is referenced twice in this trailer alone, I wouldn't loose hope just yet, smittysgelato .
If I'm mistaken, that's lifted straight from Episode II. Maybe not word for word, but just about.
I still worry this will be too Rebels. It was Clone Wars that was the big success, not the spin-off Disney cartoon.

Hey, don't get me wrong, Hayden is confirmed as a guest star, and it is the Ahsoka show, so a brief appearance is expected. And yes, you gotta love that the apple didn't fall far from the Anakin with that Episode II line. Bwahaha.

Well, he has been publicly denying it.
and it is the Ahsoka show, so a brief appearance is expected. Just a brief one? This is a series written by Filoni himself, I'd expect a much meatier presence that what we got in Obi-Wan, which was penned by somebody who wasn't any diehard for the character (Joby Harold categorically prefers the OT, if memory serves me right).
Christensen was the second actor (after Dawson) listed by IMDB and the major film magazines as being in Ahsoka. Why should he bother coming back if it's just for a cameo? I don't know about ye, but I am increasingly tiring of Anakin's profile being blown up to the roof for these series/films, only for him to play a tiny role in the final product. I couldn't care less about this Sabeen - nor whatever her lame haircut is - and yet it would appear these side characters are all over the show's footprint, quickly shoving aside Anakin and those we do care about.
There is a very strong whiff of "Well, if you didn't watch Rebels, TOUGH" about this show, it makes me a little nervous.

Joby is probably one of the biggest reasons Obi-Wan was a let down. He hasn't written much of note. So, yeah, Ahsoka will have better writing because Filoni is a better writer. That being said, Hayden is listed as appearing in 1 episode on IMDB. Dawson and Bordizzo (Sabine) are listed as being in all 8 episodes. Heck, even Thrawn is listed as only one episode. I hope this info is wrong, because it would be pretty lame to hype Thrawn and then have him be in only 1 episode.

Yes, not enough discussion has been granted to Harold. I'm doubtful that the director was able to shape the storyline much beyond what he'd wrote. While it wasn't terrible, I did feel like characters like Reva were forced and distracting from who we needed to care about. That being said, Hayden is listed as appearing in 1 episode on IMDB. Dawson and Bordizzo (Sabine) are listed as being in all 8 episodes.
So before he was listed at 8 episodes, now he's at 1. Curious.
Heck, even Thrawn is listed as only one episode. I hope this info is wrong, because it would be pretty lame to hype Thrawn and then have him be in only 1 episode. That's the thing. The information would seem to all be temporary guesswork. I believe anyone can edit it, so not unlike how Wikipedia works, which one needs to be cautious of if doing any academic research.
There's no way the series bad guy, Thrawn, is in a single episode. Lies, I tell you, all damn lies!
