I afforded myself a copy of that book too, I even got one of the limited XXL editions. Pretty expensive, but I feel no regnet since I don't spend much money on anything else Star Wars and it felt like the last recollection of Lucas owned Star Wars, working as a kind of bookend for me. It's fairly informative too, although I have previously already read the other prequel making of's. The larger illustrations are also nice to look at. The Prequels are pieces of Art, and this book makes that clear. Congrats, Darkslayer !

That's been my concern. I wouldn't be able to stop thinking about what was excised for the lighter, mass-market version.

I am not sure, but I think the additional charpters on the 1997 Special Editions are definitely missing. I would have to take a closer look to say anything more reliably.

What I wouldn't do for one of these.
There's something very special about the aesthetics of Episode I, both in the film and the marketing material. It's hard to put into words how it touched my imagination as a child.
I wish I could buy one.

Episode I feels like an artistic era of its own. It's so rich and complete, there is hardly anything like it and it will probably never be matched in terms of scope and significance. Episode I is probably not my favourite of the movies, but the Art of Episode I is unmatched.

You know you have Star Wars on the brain when you see this in the corner of your eye and think it says, "I heart Star Wars". In Warsaw Chopin Airport Then about 30 minutes later I saw this. They really went for the SW font.

One of my earliest childhood memories is from late-79 to early-1980, just after having turned 4. Some kid in my neighborhood had gotten the Millennium Falcon toy vehicle, which was the hugest deal imaginable for kids at that time, it was the holy grail. He brought it to the neighborhood park to show it off and play with it. All the kids his age, 7-9, crowded around and the younger kids like me had to try to peek through from the outside of the circle. (My brother who was also there was 7.5). The big, funny thing I remember was none of the kids really being able to pronounce Millennium, and them arguing about it Anyways, at that time I didn't really know much about Star Wars or get too into the craze. I barely knew it was a thing. One, I was too young. And two, this was before vhs, movies would come and go. And I'm pretty sure we didn't see the Holiday special. I was into The Muppets and The Hulk, and Mork & Mindy and Battlestar Galactica, (which were riding on the wave of SW). Because they were on TV and you could watch it all the time. I had the Dagget and Imperious Leader action figures. I've always loved weird aliens. That's the reason the big toy companies like Hasbro and Mattel passed on the SW toys. They didn't think the mania would last. I remember first getting into SW in earnest around late-81ish. I was at a department store with my aunt and they had SW figures by the check-out counters and she said I could pick a few out. So after a hard decision between all the weird aliens, I got Greedo, a Sand Person and I think Snaggletooth. Then sitting at home mesmerized by all the figures on the card back, I started getting more intrigued, and started asking the older kids more questions about the lore and the story in the 2 movies.
