I started a blog. I've been meaning to do so for a while now. It's nothing too fancy. I just felt like I could use a place to dump some of my random thoughts on Star Wars minutia, especially of the prequels. These are all just my interpretations of things, which I like about SW. You can look at things from many different points of view. seekerofthewhills.wordpress.com/2023/03/29/prequel-thoughts-jedi-rave/Lovely! I appreciated the reference in your inaugural post to the subtle, visual ornamentation of the marching armies on the holographic displays. Such a potent detail I'd never noticed!

Ever since I became cognizant of that detail, I've been fascinated by that moment. A lot more could be written about it, so I may follow up on it. That moment is just visual jazz at its finest.

There is nothing more boring than that and an obvious sign of people clearly thinking inside the box and not outside the box, which is a trademark of visionaries like George Lucas.

Yeah, I totally agree. Lucas is a virtuoso who plays with images like a musician plays notes. The whole Battle of the Heroes sequence and how it's intercut with Yoda vs. Palpatine creates such a strong emotional effect, that it becomes like a visual tone poem. The music by John Williams is also phenomenal, how it incorporates some of Duel of the Fates, calling back to that first battle between Jedi and Sith. You have the personal battle between Anakin and Obi-Wan, and the battle for the soul of the entire Republic with Yoda and Palpatine. The emotion of the duel between Ani and Obi is so strong and exhaustive, that you almost need that short break there, and the whole fight is really well segmented.

I remember when this happened on the official site in 2001! It lasted for a week or two, if I recall correctly.

Anyone else having trouble with Starwarsscreencaps.com? For about a month now I can't get any of the screencap images to load. I don't know if its just my end or what. Sometimes the first page of a movie will load, but when I go to a subsequent page, nothing. Yes. Very frustrating. The site has always suffered from patchy screencaps loading, or not loading, at random from one page to the next, often leaving nearly half the caps or more per page blank. And on occasion I could bring up any number of pages with virtually zero loading issues whatsoever. But as of late the site seems to have lost its shit. Which is unfortunate, as no other archive online is as complete and of high-res quality.

Just a random thought. That sweet smell of spring that is in the air at this time of the year just screams "Episode II" to my inner senses. It's like the Naboo Lake Country flows through the air.

I don't want things to change.
I guess some things (young Anakins) never do.

Find me a clip of young Hayden saying, "Yippeee!" and I will love you forever.

That was my first thought too. Here's one you can insert a lot of PT lines into. I'd also like to insert a lot of lines from this into the PT

I'm a big fan of DC Comics, especially their classic comics from the Golden, Silver and Bronze age. My second favorite character after Batman, of course, is Hawkman, and I just happened to discover this issue with a very familiar title.

Great find! Yeah, as a kid I loved Hawkman, he definitely deserves more love. And yes, I've come across The Phantom Menace a few times in other places, I wish I had kept the references though, because now I can't remember where they were from. But that term seemed to be used a bit during the earlier part of the cold war era.

The infiltration of institutions by hostile ideologies seems to be a reoccurring fear that is expressed in American media.

Yup, May is very much Star Wars month.
Good in the sense of spring as you suggest, bad in the sense that May is also usually examination month (or the time closely leading up to it) for a student. Exams in December don't tend to be as serious

Anyone heard of the card game Love Letter? It's one of my favorite games, and they also have a Star Wars edition, based around the goings-on of Jabba's Palace, which I own. Back in around May, I took it with me to a trivia quiz to kill time between rounds. Now during quizzes, it's best to write down your guess for an answer on a piece of paper while discussing it with your teammates, so the other teams don't hear you. But in this quiz one question was, "Who speaks the first line in the first Star Wars film [ANH]?" And instead of writing it down, I got the C-3P0 card out of the deck and put on the table. And we ended up winning that one, too.
