The movie is composed of four episodes bundled together. The first 25 minutes of the movie was a late production in Season 1, that's why it holds up better than rest of the feature, which are among the very first episodes produced. And I agree that the reputation of the movie was undeserved. People judged it as the next cinematic Star Wars production instead of a Star Wars animated movie which was the pilot of a TV series. A lot of people unfortunately skip the movie out of genuine ignorance about its existence, since they Lucasfilm never bothered to promote it as the pilot that it is. The movie is ok. Nice introduction to the animated world of SW (after the microseries). I have my issues with Matt Lanter's voice, however, Anakin in this movie is closer to Anakin of the live movies much more than in other episodes of the TV show. I didn't like the Tattoine sequence, I thought it was better for the story for Anakin never to come back to Tattoine after his mother's death. They could show that Jabba is living on another place and moved to Tattoine after the kidnapping or something. I liked Ahsoka introduction: it was obvious why Anakin accepted her: as she looked much like himself. I'm not sure still if he should be given a Padawan at all (better no) but mentoring somebody as Ahsoka (even if she wasn't officially his Padawan) was interesting approach.

I think the Tatooine sequence was done appropriately. It established the pain he feels by being there and that he would rather not be there at all, but it's not like Anakin would just refuse to go there if his Jedi duty called for it (which it did).

A place to discuss The Clone Wars animated series without having to engage in pointless arguments about Disney.
So, here's my first question to you all: what are your favourite scenes?
Anything on Mortis. We didn’t get George’s ST, but at least he was able to tell us about the Force through this amazing series.

So in the Mortis arc, when the Daughter gives her life to Ahsoka and Anakin revives Ahsoka, could the Daughter have touched Ahsoka and revived her herself, or did it have to go through Anakin? Does it only work if Anakin is the conduit? youtu.be/h1mODbieeTM

Pretty sure Ahsoka's destiny is to replace the Sister on Mortis. I see your endgame, Mr. Filoni.

Does it only work if Anakin is the conduit? I don't know if it needed to be Anakin specifically, but someone had to make the connection. Anakin (who had the will to do it) had to become one with the Father, who knew how.

I agree, and I'm probably in the minority when I say that I liked Ahsoka well enough in the movie, and only in the later seasons came to resent her, because she started to take too much space in relation to the fact that she isn't even mentioned in the live action films. I have noticed that most people experienced the opposite effect. I do however have a soft spot and fond memories of The Clone Wars movie, because it was the first Star Wars I saw on the big screen. The movie and the first few seasons of the series owe a lot to the microseries. The movie starts with similar warbled sounds of war as the two volumes of the microseries, and Anakin and Obi-Wan wear the same clone armor. Then in the later seasons they started to depart more from the microseries, especially the last season released by Disney which contradicts volume two of the microseries. I choose to sandwich seasons 1-6 inbetween the two volumes of the microseries.

There is a part of me that thinks Ahsoka should have died when she fought Vader at the end of Season 2 of Rebels. The fact she is present during the Original Trilogy is bizarre because it lends less weight to the idea that the Jedi are all but extinct, even though Ahsoka is no longer a Jedi at that point. However, her survival into the Post Episode VI era makes her story more interesting.

However, her survival into the Post Episode VI era makes her story more interesting. The way they presented the duel led to the conclusion that she didn't survive. I think at one point they changed their mind and decided to bring her back but honestly I strongly disliked the way they did it in Rebels. If Vader and Ahsoka were separated somehow because of the explosion and respectively, because of it she survives (barely) would be better idea. Also this would explain why she was inactive in the most important years of the Rebellion. Anyways, Ahsoka is really one of the peaks of TCW in my opinion.

I don't think Filoni ever intended to kill Ahsoka at the end of Rebels S2. He just knows the power of lack of closure. It hooks the audience to keep watching to find out if she really is indeed dead or not.

I think giving Anakin a Padawan was brilliant. Along with helping him mature, it also allowed us to see aspects of him we wouldn't have been able to otherwise. SW: Can you talk about the inspiration behind Ahsoka and Ventress? Lucas: I wanted to develop a character that would help Anakin settle down, because... at the end of Episode II he was kind of a wild child. He and Obi-Wan don't get along. So the idea was to see how they become friends, how they become partners, you know, how they become a team. One of the ways to do that was, when you become a parent, when you become a teacher, you kind of have to become more responsible. It kind of forces you into this adulthood thing. So what I wanted to do was take Anakin and force him into this situation. "Now I have to teach somebody, and now I have to be slightly more responsible." And so it was a juxtaposition. I happen to have a couple of daughters, so I have a lot of experience with that particular situation, so I just said, "Rather than make it another guy, why don't we make her a girl?" Because that's fun and I have a lot of girls, and they're just as hard to deal with when they're teenagers as boys are. And just as importantly, we get to see him as a parent, so to speak, something he didn't get to do with Luke and Leia. And we got to see someone who cared about him besides his wife and master. It's just like SW to introduce a new prominent character with each new project. And it would've been remiss of them not to give Anakin a Padawan. One that would be a force unto herself and become beloved by many. Another good reason for having Ahsoka and helping Anakin mature in TCW was that it shows Yoda actively doing something in response to his trepidations towards Anakin's training. Some people say, "If Yoda knew Anakin had all these issues, why didn't he do anything about it?" Well, he did. He gave Anakin a Padawan in hopes it would train him to let go of attachments, because some day she will become a Knight, ending Anakin's tutelage with her.

Subtext Mining One of the things that bugs me about TCW is people praising it by saying it's what the PT should have been and also that it's mature which is their way of saying that everything lucas made after TESB was crap it really Pisses me off! where's their sense of Wonder?

Subtext Mining Controversial topic incoming I feel that they Jumped the Shark when Pre Vizsla Murdered that teenage girl just to show what a D*ck he is and the later seasons with all the death IMHO sucked a lot of the fun out of the Franchise along with the ST Destroying ROTJ's Happy Ending Yes the Clone Wars was a Tragic story but it also had the side effect of fans loving it for being Dark and Edgy and thinking that's what Star Wars should be what happened to the fun and escapism of Star Wars? Am i just naive for thinking this way?

I agree that TCW is extraordinarily dark in the last few seasons, I've said I wouldn't let a child under 10 watch it, but I think there's room for the whole range of light-hearted to dark in SW. I don't think they were being dark just for the sake of it, though, and as dark as it is, I still think it's Lucasian escapism with food for thought. But yeah, I do see some bro dudes going "Woo, TCW is dark, yo! Now this is SW!" without chewing on the thought-provoking stuff.

Subtext Mining Should TCW have lasted longer? The reason i ask this question is because some people at Saltier than Crait think the War should have been more than 3 years not to mention that ANH is 19 years after ROTS Many think Obi-Wan should have been older than 57 (Alec Guinness turned 62 during filming) Thoughts?

I'm totally burnt out on Disney Star Wars again, and am itching for more Lucas Star Wars other than his Complete Saga, so I'll rewatch TCW from the start to see if my opinion of the show has changed in light of everything that has come since. I have been a bit harsh on the show in the past, especially on Lanter's Anakin and Ahsoka, but I said that if I see Hayden's Anakin with Ahsoka, it may change my view of the characters in TCW. We'll see what I think now. This is where the fun begins!

Seeing Hayden's Anakin with Ahsoka in live action definitely helped my suspension of disbelief while watching TCW this time around. Now I have an easier time imagining the film Anakin doing the things Lanter's version does in the show. The thread of connection was always there, particularly to the way Anakin was portrayed at the beginning of RotS, but the Ahsoka show's Clone Wars flashbacks cinched it for me. I've also loosened up a bit in general, not having such rigid conceptions of these characters, and I understand now that the characterizations in the show are broader and more cartoonish, because, well, it is a cartoon. I also believe that Lanter's Anakin, at the height of the Clone Wars, brought more of Jake Lloyd's happier portrayal to the surface of the character. In AotC and RotS, he is in a much more tumultuous period in his personal life, so it makes sense why he was moodier in them.
Overall, I'm enjoying my marathon of the show much more than I expected.

Agree or Disagree? Disagree. We got the important beats of the PT. The war itself isn’t important. Palpatine wins either way. Seeing how Palpatine manufactures several crises that lead to the war and seeing how the rise of the Empire is more than just the a result of the war is more interesting imo. Plus, I feel like we got A LOT for two movies. The Battle of Geonosis trumps Hoth and Endor when showing the scale of the civil war and the Battle of Coruscant and Utapau are important to ROTS’s plot. Kashyyyk is just a nice bonus. The scale is shown to be far more dynamic imo than anything that could have been shown in the OT and I think Anakin and Obi-Wan’s relationship in Episode III is more meaningful THANKS to the contrast in I and II. Anakin and Obi-Wan are more than just friends who bantered for 3 years, they were also at odds politically and mentally, but still loved each other despite the frustrations and problems. I think the PT shows a much more dynamic and complex (maybe even more realistic than SW should) relationship.
