This tweet exemplifies the stupidity of the majority of criticism against Disney Star Wars. Clearly a double standard is being applied to KK vs. George Lucas. Luke is LITERALLY a self-insert of Lucas. Luke is a variation on the name Lucas for Pete's sake. Not to mention Lucas lived in a small desert town with a father figure that wanted him to take over the family business. I'm not saying the double standard is due to gender, but dear god, there is a double standard here.

jppiper Huff's criticism makes no sense when you consider the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Also, 6? It's 5 Star Wars films. Anyway, you can't exclude the Television series from the equation.

That would be pretty hilarious if Disney sold Lucasfilm back to George. Just the idea of that gives me a good chuckle.

Stranger things have happened!
As much as I'd jump for joy, knowing his age, I'd be be as quick to ask "well, what's the story with Lucasfilm once he dies? Have one of his children suddenly become interested in the family business?"
George may well live into his nineties, we don't know. But as you said in the other thread, after so many years a workaholic, the least he's deserved is a good retirement. We all know he he enjoys being away from the spotlight.

George will never reacquire Lucasfilm. I doubt Disney seriously wants to sell it back to him, and I seriously doubt he is in any way interested. By and large, Lucas has moved on from Star Wars and his film companies and into another chapter of life. Not only is he now nearly an octogenarian, but he has a young child, and a wife he married the year after selling to Disney. Another trilogy is clearly beyond him at this point. Of course, this is George Lucas we're talking about. He's got ideas, tenacity, and genius to spare. He could easily surprise us all. But what would be the point of gaining back Lucasfilm if he loseth his precious time and his independent, fuck-the-system soul? The main thing keeping Lucasfilm afloat was Star Wars films: legitimate trilogies authored and assembled by The Maker himself. With a side order of "Indiana Jones". Some of the good people involved in those earlier cinematic sacraments are now gone or going and the landscape of cinema itself (not just film culture, but theatrical distribution) has changed dramatically over the past ten years. And yes, the man deserves a good retirement, away from all the bullshit he was subjected to for the better part of two decades. Life, as they say, is short; and you may as well try and squeeze every drop from that precious orange while it lasts.

Hey, man, I'm cool with Rey, and I'm cool with other people being cool with Rey. It's genuinely interesting what people read into these movies sometimes, and it's also nice to see people finding inspiration in a range of characters. It's not always an either/or thing. True, I've had me some issues with Rey and a lot of the Disney characters, but I accept that these characters are fully legit to others. Just as the likes of Jar Jar, Padme, Anakin, Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Mace, Shmi, et al., are very legit to PT fans; and yes, it would be nice if that could be accepted, too.

- Her appearance scarcely changes over the course of three films. - Her scripted failures are incidental in the caustic sense and without having any real external effect on the proceeding plot/narrative.
- Her hyper-responsive schizophrenic personality is the result of her character existing not for any arcing story but as a node for disposable dramatic conventions patchworked from one movie to the next, one scene to the next. Or...
- She cries a lot.
- She's a strong product brand to placate girls.
