Everything in Attack of the Clones is paying off or setting up stuff in the other movies, The Last Jedi was written as a bridge between 7 and 9 before the story of 9 was even written. I'd say it's pretty straightforward. Lucas claims Anakin is the Chosen One, then illustrates as much over one trilogy as it was designed to lead into the next. So, yeah. There are many people who consider TLJ "boring, pointless filler that goes at a snail's pace". She really picked the wrong sequel film to compare AOTC against. My pick, of course, is AOTC -- because it doesn't have a boring space chase that goes at a snail's pace, nor does it have that vapid CGI clusterfuck that is the fathier chase or the pathetic Battle of Hoth retread on Crait. These Disneyoids are clueless. |

These idiots wouldn't know story if it came up behind them and bit them on the ass. That said, AOTC is really just the big build-up to ROTS. Lucas said himself that around 80% of the original backstory is in ROTS. I don't see why a TLJ comparison helps them, though. That movie almost singlehandedly refuses to get going on a story of its own. It's too busy saying what Star Wars isn't, rather than outlining what Star Wars is or could be. Lucas used every episode to tell the bigger story of the Skywalker family drama. Disney? Not really. |

Awful job and awful Covid explains a lot. Honestly, at this point I'm learning to accept Disney Star Wars as Disney, that can never detract from the films Lucas made. I'm just noticing a change in tone as of late. Not upset. I don't think there's much change in tone -- although "a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds" (Emerson). I've always said I like (even love) TROS. You even said it was possibly your favourite Star Wars film when it came out. If there's some other change in tone you're talking about, it's probably because I saw "Solo" and got quite a thrill from watching it, right when the Obi-Wan series was going pear-shaped for me. This just reads as two Obi-Wan Kenobi fanboys prosecuting another prequel fan because I've torn into it in the last week or two. I don't hide my feelings. I can only like what I like. |
