The Special Editions of the original Trilogy are as controversial and maligned as the prequels, and since I didn't see anyone talking about them,I think was a good idea ,since everyone has an opinion on every single change, Let me start with the Mos Eisley entrance, because I see people complaining about it just to the fact IT HAS CGI,ignoring the worldbuilding it provide making it feel mor alive and fitting more with a space-port full of scum and villany,I seen people saying a place with sum and villany should be empty because people don't want to walk on the streets, but that don't explain then why all the people seems to be in the cantina, wich is as dangeorous as the streets.
The only thing people semms to hate about this cahnges is the CGI additions,to quote a post from Theforce.net "We see some droids engaging in slapstick humor, which goes against the more foreboding tone described by Ben earlier. And the large CG creatures that obstruct the screen are kind of obnoxious in how distracting they are.", the slapstick humor refers to the ronto throwing a Bantha and the droid hitting an annoying probe droid,I don't see why it should be a bad thing, and slly moments is not equal to slapstick, and they forget that Ben mind trick to the Stormtrooper makes the Stormtrooper looks dumb,so I don't think t contradict it,the only change I agree is u"bad" is the ronto in walking in front of the screen, but I can live with it since it last few seconds and there is nothing happening other than the Stormtroopers coming to Luke's speeder to talk with him.

Then There's the fans who whine about Boba Fett's voice being replaced for TESB (added in the 2004 DVD Release)

They are great. I'm glad that George had the autonomy and ability to bring the movies closer to his vision.
The expansion of Mos Eisley and the new shots on the Battle of Yavin are among my favourite changes.

I love the Special Editions and feel they breathe new life into the OT. My favorite moments are : The ronto (I own the creature/rider two pack), the walking dewbacks, the Jedi Rocks musical number, the Endor/Galaxy celebration, the extended views of cloud city and the new and improved sarlacc (funny how all my favorite scenes involve animals).

First time I see someone who loves Jedi Rocks,It is ussually used as an example of the worst parts of the special editions, people felp like removing Lapty Neck was heresy,In my opinion Lapty Neck was not that good, and I prefer the version of the CD OSTwich is used in Battlefront 2 (2005) hero assault, with electronic voice, but regarding Jedi Rocks,Is catchy, maybe Sy Snootles voice is annoying and the scene itself with the CGi aliens is grotesque, but considering is a musical number on Jabba Palace Is perfectly on point,Jabba himself is grotesque. Regarding the CGI alliens, did anyone see puppet Sy Snootles? it's everything but real, the dichotomy between puppets vs Cgi is that while the puppets are there, they move unnaturally, while the CGI is crearly not there but at least you feel yo are watching living creatures. The Endor/Galaxy celebration is one of the best cahnges, and the views of cloud city too, in fact Irvin kershner loved it when George Lucas showed it to him, as he didn't like the claustrophobic cloud city interiors. Maybe your favourite scenes involve animals because is always good see the fantastic fauna of the Star Wars Galaxy, contributing to the worldbuilding.

I loved all the changes. Dewbacks are essential. The dug in Jabba's palace. Ben's krayt dragon yell is so absurd, I love it. CG Yoda in Ep I. The music when Boba Fett escapes with frozen Han.

I Never Understood the hate for Jedi Rocks The song itself is pretty dope. It's the animation that was the problem. All the unnecessary close-up shots, not of Sy Snootles, but of that bug dude that had saliva bridged between his teeth as he just went in front of the camera and started screaming incessantly. The Special Edition of ROTJ is my favorite Star Wars movie, but even I have to admit that was...going too far in a few places.

Huh. I think the animation for Jedi Rocks is great. The song itself doesn't sound as seedy and alien to me, compared to Lapti Nek, though, so I almost wish they kept Lapti Nek. Even the title itself is lame to me, and not in-universe. But who cares?

I love the addition of the Dug in Jabba's Palace seen in the more recent releases. That warms my heart. Now, Lapti Nek vs. Jedi Rocks. I too feel Lapti Nek is a more befitting number, but also that the new animation is alright - if not a little too over the top in places. Still it's better than the unfortunately subpar puppetry with Sy and Max. Actually if you just get rid of the new dancers and gong-playing Weequay it might be a better balance. I don't know, maybe also the furry guy, he kinda steals the show from Sy and makes her kind of moot. I wish they'd brought her more to the forefront. Her design is one of my favorites; the original - the SE and TCW toned it down a bit. Lapti Nek fits in so perfectly snug, much like the live music in the Cantina. Catchy and other-worldly but doesn't take you out of the scene. I used to detest everything about the Jedi Rocks sequence. But somewhere there's a clip of I think George and the crew talking about how Lapti Nek was a last minute idea and they wanted more time and technology to do something bigger. And it wasn't until the '90s that they could do that. So, they justified their choices a bit, but still I think it diverges from the tone a bit too much. When I watch RotJ I try to watch the first act on the '95 VHS version when I can, but sometimes I have to make do with the SE Other than that I never had any issues with any changes, even the Han & Greedo thing. Oh, except Luke screaming on his way down the shaft. Glad Lucas reneged that. Vader saying no before killing Palpatine I'm neutral towards. Let's say I don't miss it if I watch it w/out. Maybe there's a little OT nostalgia-bro inside me.

Anakin Ghost in Episode VII can’t find much discussion on this change beyond the tired debate of which force ghost makes more sense (Shaw or Christensen). What’s always been more interesting to me is the fact that Anakin’s head faces a different direction in the Christensen version. In the Shaw version, we see that Anakin, like Obi-Wan and Yoda, is always looking off to the right of the camera, and not directly at the camera. In the Christensen version, Anakin looks off to the right of the camera when he first appears. Then when we see him next, Anakin is facing a different direction. I think he momentarily looks directly at the camera and then starts looking slightly off to the left of camera, to coincide I think with Luke and Leia leaving to join the celebration. (Looking directly at the camera...I think) (Now looking slightly off to the left of camera...I think)I’m curious to hear everyone else’s thoughts as to (1) the significance of having Anakin look in a different direction to the original version, and (2) how it logically works in terms of the positions of the characters in the scene (i.e. does it logically make sense for Anakin to look directly at the camera since he wasn’t looking straight at the camera initially and the fact that Obi-Wan is still looking off to the right of the camera?)

[continuing] Here are some of my own thoughts. I don't really have anything to say about the logic aspect, other than I'm probably overthinking it! RE: The significance of having Anakin look directly at the camera. I should stress that I might be completely wrong in concluding that Anakin is in fact looking directly at the camera. If he is though, then my suggestion for why this was done goes back to the few times we see a character look directly at the camera in the Star Wars saga. 1. These two dark scenes in Ep III In this shot, we have Anakin looking at "us" as a Sith Lord. He is all alone except for the dead bodies lying on the ground and the person in the background he is about to murder. In this shot, we have Anakin looking at "us" trapped in the black suit, in the presence of the "devil". There's a clear contrast between these images where he is staring into darkness, and the image of Anakin looking at "us" (really Luke and Leia), together with his old friends. 2. This fun scene with the wonderful Jar Jar Binks in Ep I Now how does this scene with Jar Jar Binks fit into all this? Well, this whole scene with Jar Jar Binks is really a foreshadowing of Anakin redeeming himself. Jar Jar Binks gets into some trouble and gets zapped by the pod racer energy beam thingy. In the end, he gives "us" a thumbs up to indicate everything is okay. In the context of what is to come later in the saga, Jar Jar Binks is really telling "us" that not everything will be smooth sailing, there will be bumps along the way, but in the end everything will be okay. And funnily enough, in the end it's Anakin seeing his son getting zapped by the Emperor that pushes him back into the light. So I think all these shots of Anakin and Jar Jar Binks looking directly at the camera is a way of highlighting the progression of Anakin Skywalker's story. Jar Jar Binks gives us an overall summary of what is to come. Then we see Anakin telling "us" he has fallen and is now trapped in darkness. Finally, we see Anakin tell "us" that he has been redeemed.

I like it! I don't know if it's intentional, but Lucas is definitely aware of these things. I certainly see a lot of parallels between the goings on of Jar Jar and the goings on of Anakin and of Padme. Something to think about.

tl07 I was just going through some old notes of mine and came across an observation I had about Jar Jar breaking the fourth wall in AotC when he says "She's happier than mesa seeing her in a longo time.", and then how Anakin breaks the fourth wall in RotS when Padme is at her saddest and most distressed. Veddy interestink...

I see, this video wasr uploaded in 2012,shortly when George Lucas sell the company, the video ends by saying that now that Lucas is not in charge, there will be a New Hope. I already brought my thoughts here on some of the changes he mention in the video, so It would be redundant. - The Boba Fett voice, for what I undestood from the video, what he hates is that it is for the sake of consistency with the prequels,He said that sons haven't the same voices of their fathers so Boba should have not the same voice as Jango, which amke you think that he didn't paid attention because he thinks Boba is Jango's real son instead of an unaltered clone,a fact that that undoes that argument, he then whines about the clones being a dumb idea, but that's not the topic here, the only real reason he didn't like the change is because he likes the old voice better, plain and simple, wich is his opinion, but he tries to cover it giving other reasons.
- The rock in front of R2 D2, I get the idea behind it, R2 D2 was too exposed to the Tusken to not see it, the real reason people have to complain is how he managed to get there, wich I can undestand, well, R2 has shonw be capable to do a lot of things, In ep2 he has a cable capable to attach itself to C3PO head, so I think this is more open to interpretation, but not as impossible as it can look.
- The emperor hologram,he said that he didn't care that he look different because is still mysterious, another situation where he addmits not giving anything about conistency,he says that removing the mystery make his apareance in ROTJ just another villain, which make no sense, because he basiclly says that Palaptine is not that good villain so he needs mystery to be a threat.
- Luke screaming while falling, I'm neutral with this changes, both versions make sense, he is falling,is difficult not to scream, but his mind was such a mess with that big reveal,so I get why he could not scream,i really don't mind this change.
- The infamous "Han Shot first", he says that Lucas changed it because is too dark and would makes han looks evil, the points is, Han is moral grey at the beggining of ANH,yes, but not evil, not the type of guy who kill anyone just for be an obstacle, but the thing is,Greedo was pointing him with a gun, the guy in the video even mentios that Greedo was saying he would kill Han,so the scene was allways Han acting in self defense, the change is to make it more visusally clear, because that think about Han kill anyone who puts on his way like a boss is more something made up by fans than something stated in the movie.
- The Jabba scene, yes it tells the same thing as the Greedo one,but I see it more to introduce Jabba,he says that the Greedo scene was made to be an alternative of thet deleted scene, but both in the original deleted scene and the special edition version, Jabba ask Han why he killed Greedo like that, wich means that Greedo scene was made first, and the scene was still intended to coexist with the Greedo one, it also debunks his argument about Greedo still being in the backgorund, wich is not difficult to asume is just another rodian.
- Vader's nooo is the same situation as Luke's
- Finally Anakin ghost, well he clearlly don't undestand the motifs behind the change, because he brings the "Why Obi Wan isn't young too t?" so I will not talk about that, something that he says that shares with Boba's voice is the disrespecfullnes to the actors, well did the changes made dissapear the pay they got?, Sebastian was still in the movie as Darth Vader face under the mask,so he didn't diapear.
[/ul] I'm curious about how people who see Star wars for the first tume would recat if they see the Special editions first and then they see the original version, they probably would not care.

The thing with Jedi Rocks is that it's supposed to seem kind of out of place. The idea was that you wouldn't expect this huge, elaborate dance number in the middle of a Star Wars movie. This joke didn't come across in the original version because Lucas couldn't pull off an elaborate enough dance number with the clunky puppets he had and the boppy disco number he ended up having to use. But it was always the intention. With this knowledge in mind, it becomes obvious that the tonally jarring opening sequence of Temple of Doom a year later was Lucas re-using this idea he wasn't quite able to pull off in his last film.
