It's worth noting, I think, how the Matrix trilogy was of its time, and still is, not a sibling or cousin but certainly something of a schoolmate with the Star Wars Prequels and LOTR trilogy altogether—that 1999 to 2003 stretch, at least: the cyber emo-goth pseudo-philosopher, the renaissance-fair-cum-fantasy nerd and the un-hip space opera formalist. Three weirdo schoolers mimicking each other in broad gestures yet each somewhat distrusting of the other and obsessive with their differing idiosyncrasies.
Some might include the (early) Harry Potter films as well but those always felt to me like a studio commercialist ledger, chiefly, compared to the above trio which were more the vision of pop-auteurs. I guess what I mean is, seeing this trailer is, I dunno, perhaps not overtly nostalgic but in a surreal fashion umbilical to said three-amigo, high-concept, blockbuster era. I can almost imagine a Christmas, 2021 direct soft-reboot-quel to Episode III; not having anything to do with the OT, just it's own Prequelesque extravaganza riff.
What color would the PT pill be, I wonder. One-half red the other half blue? Whoa, indeed, Neo. Whoa indeed.

Well, there it is.
Thoughts, anyone? Just Lana this time? Black people apparently all look the same to the Matrix. A trilogy of trilogies. A triad in the Force. Also, a la The Matrix, everyone was dialling up to the Internet back then. Harry Squatter. Squatting on the lofty temple steps of cinema with BBC TV-movie flatulence.
Don't give Disney any ideas how to satisfy shareholders and win back fans circa 2030.
LGBT rainbow flag coloured? I mean, it kinda was the only one of the aforementioned trilogies/fantasy franchises to fully embrace the colour spectrum, and Padme even wears a rainbow dress in the middle installment. So yeah. Definitely a multihued pill packed full of midi-chlorians. The perfect way to start and end the day.

Well, there it is.
Thoughts, anyone? Just Lana this time? Black people apparently all look the same to the Matrix. Dat's racist. Seriously, though. A Washowski seems to be the only card dealer in sci-fi/fantasy cinema where, when an androgynous blue-haired Asian chick steps into frame with gravity-defying parkour, I sense not Woke box-checking or bullshit progressivism but rather something cut from a more sincere cloth. I give the (His)isters that.
Harry Squatter. Squatting on the lofty temple steps of cinema with BBC TV-movie flatulence. Harsh, bro. Harsh in its accuracy. Count me among those who simply never had one single fangoing, eye-opening moment in the Potterverse ahem "Wizarding World". Yeah, Cuarón put a little something on it with entry No. 3 but for the most part those movies definitely came off like an expensively budgeted Hallmark Entertainment miniseries, only minus the unaffected dorky charm of, say, Merlin, The Odyssey and Dinotopia. How 'bout, whatever the color Jar Jar's suppose to be. Orange goo. Or maybe straight purple in honor of Windu's lightsa—wait just a goddamn minute...!!
A month after Morpheus red-pilled Neo back in '99 did Qui-Gon in turn blue-pill the whole fucking Saga?!
AM I JUST NOW GETTING THIS??!!??!!

Yeah, the early 2000s trilogy of trilogies (granted, LOTR is an adaptation but still). Even though I don't really like The Matrix Revolutions, I respect it as part of the trilogy and the story and vision the Wachowskis were trying to tell. A vision that extended to The Animatrix and the video games, which they were also heavily involved in. That said, this trailer gave me (like most corporate revivals nowadays) fan fiction vibes.

I was 22 years in the year between the OT re-release and Episode I. What a time to be a Star Wars fan. What an age to be. What a time to be alive.
And what an age for Anakin and Luke.

A New Hope ... 22 years ... The Phantom Menace The Matrix ... 22 years ... The Matrix Resurrections Einsteinian. Truly.
When the Prequels commenced (at the end of my Senior year) A New Hope felt like history whereas The Matrix to me here-and-now just feels like memory. Has there really been such a shift between the latter as there was between the former? I really can't tell. If a lot seemed to had changed from 1977 to 1999 then from 1999 to 2021 a lot seems to have simply continued.

It does kinda feel that way. The 1970s were the 1970s. The 90s were the 90s. The 2000s? Meh. Of course, we shouldn't overlook smartphones, social media, Facebook, Reddit, YouTube, Star Wars message... yeaaaah, you know what? Forget I spoke. The future stopped twenty years ago. The future stopped when Elvis died. 16/08/1977 ... put 'em together ... 2001

How old were you when you saw the OT? If you're a kid, even a single year can feel like eternity. That said, to me Episode I seems older than the Matrix even though they were release the same year and I was young adult when I saw both.

That said, to me Episode I seems older than the Matrix even though they were release the same year and I was young adult when I saw both. They both feel about the same age to me, but TPM has more of a timeless quality about it, in my opinion. All the actors are pretty grown up now, so that probably dates both movies, if you're familiar with their more recent work. And "The Matrix" has telephone call boxes and cell phones! Cell phones. There wasn't the "smart" variety back then. Mind you, in terms of tone, TM is probably closer to a modern-day movie than TPM. TPM's lush colour palette and its innocent storybook quality perhaps make it seem like it comes from another era. These are both, in any case, the "pre-financial crash" turn-of-the-millennium mythologies. Ironically, they both seem prescient because of what happened in 2008 and the major socioeconomic fallout still being felt to this day.

I didn't have a cell phone until 2002. So he use of flip phones in The Matrix seemed very cool to me!
