Thank you, Subtext! I knew I got it from Lucas. I'm not sure if that is the exact interview I was listening to or not, but he is at least repeating the same thoughts in that interview, that's for sure.

Oh M-I-D-1E, I'm baa-aack. But this time as an expat. Ha, now I live one block away from this place. Which means I also live near by this. I use it as the far point for my run. When I get to it I slap it and loop back to my apartment.

Who would be interested in opening up a competition for post of the year? A committee would come up with 5-10 nominations and then we'd all vote on the winner. We could also do the same for best thread.
Let me know your thoughts.

It's a nice idea, but maybe a bit much for such a tiny, out-of-the-way, low-membership forum. And I loathe committees. We don't need committees here. That should be enough for your... committee. But seriously: I'd wait for the forum to build up a bit first (if it ever does). Another problem here is you would seriously struggle to get even five nominations, much less ten. I know you're talking about candidate posts. But if a vote is to mean anything, it surely needs at least that many people voting. And that's where your suggestion instantly hits a snag. Look around. Barely anyone posts or interacts. I think the most likes I've ever seen on a post is about five likes. The most! You're seriously overestimating how bothered anyone can be. I also don't like favouritism or factionalism, both of which come into play when people establish committees and start voting on things. It's one of the more pathetic aspects of human nature, if you ask me. If George Lucas couldn't give a shit about awards, why should we? Your idea is further hindered by the fact that there are basically two types of fan who post here (and again: very few actually do). Broadly speaking, there are staunch Lucas defenders and then a few people willing to give the Disney films and other material the time of day. And a few in each camp are bitterly and rancidly opposed to the sequel films -- which is where some of us (like myself) have placed a considerable chunk of our posting efforts. So how would such a voting system be remotely "objective"? A better idea, perhaps, is for people to indicate their personal favourites. All transparent. No committee, no voting. Just: "Here is one of my favourite posts/threads on the whole forum." Whether other people's or their own. Like: What is everyone most proud of? What is the most satisfying thing you've ever read? I can already answer both questions immediately: I am proud of inspiring Pyrogenic to write the following. It's my favourite post on the entire forum: naberriefields.freeforums.net/post/486/threadBut that's not going to wash for some people. It doesn't change my answer, though. My second-favourite post is this one by Ingram : naberriefields.freeforums.net/post/1136/threadBoth those posts, in my opinion, have made the forum worthwhile -- and bearable. I don't think anyone needs an award, though. What's needed is better and livelier conversation. But that's up to individuals, really. Could people be more incentivised to post? I guess. I just don't know how.

Yeah, that is a good point. It's not in the spirit of this forum's ethos, regardless of whether we have enough voters.
The proposal is withdrawn.

That being said, I still think it is nice to acknowledge someone's effort by thanking them if you enjoyed their contribution. Personally I really enjoyed thephantomcalamari's post on Midi-chlorians recently. Thanks for that one, thephantomcalamari!

Well, I was being a bit simplistic. I'm sure he does appreciate the odd award or two. He's burned by those big institutional awards, though, and sees them as political. He understands an award is really a pretty transient and superficial thing. I love how he tries to brush off the big Kennedy Center Honors award in the Charlie Rose interview from 2015. He really ain't that bothered. Too busy changing society 'n' all. Yeah, that is a good point. It's not in the spirit of this forum's ethos, regardless of whether we have enough voters. The proposal is withdrawn.

That's what the "like" button -- as a basic minimum -- is for. But yeah, if you really want to applaud someone, tag them or quote them and personally address them, either publicly or privately or both. It's a shame there isn't a stronger button than "like" at present. Some posts deserve that little bit extra.

Happy New Year, everyone!
Finding and keeping up with this forum has been a true highlight of the year for me. Thanks to everyone who contributes in such meaningful, substantial ways as well as those who are content with the occasional zinger here and there. You're all great fun to keep up with! And I love all the passionate discourse (no matter how contentious it can get sometimes) and the continued out-of-the-way charm of this place!
Here's to another year of love for SW, Lucas and great art and artists, in general!

Happy New Year, everyone! Happy New Year to you, Somny, and to all fellow Naberrie Fielders! LOL. We're an interesting brew. Your ecumenical spirit is once again shining through. I think I know what you might be referring to... I'll drink to that!

Cryogenic Any update on your treatise on Episode II - Attack of the Clones for us? I was hoping to drop it out on the one-year "anniversary" of the original article, which will be in a few days (November 20th). If I miss that date, I'm hoping for two days later, because that is also a mirrored date (fitting the clone/"II" aspect of the film).
I take it there's been a delay of some sorts?

Naboo News should be returning to action at the end of this month. You can see already that Anthony is reorganising the republic blog.

Hi everyone, I was looking for a prequel-friendly place, I see some familiar names from TF.N here. We're a small band of prequelists here in this remote corner of the internet but we're always happy when someone new and sympathetic shows up.
We hope you enjoy your perusal and perhaps inevitable involvement in discussion and/or sharing of interesting SW-related content.

Hi everyone! I'm Anthony, a french fan. I'm part of the "prequel generation". Actually I wouldn't define myself as a saga fan. I'm really more of a prequel trilogy fan (I like the original trilogy though). I run the Naboo News blog (currently on break).
