Hmm, I'm not sure I've seen that many horror films, I'll give it a try. Viy Brain Dead Nosferatu The Lodger Us The People Under The Stairs The Lost Boys Rosemary's Baby The Tenant Eye of the Devil Lost Highway Fire Walk With Me Eraserhead Evil Dead Dead Alive The Freighteners Alien Psycho The Shining (first movie I remember watching) Poltergeist (Another early childhood favorite) #1, The Innocents The Freighteners and Eye of the Devil are fun, though wildly different from one another. I also appreciate your Lynchian proclivity, nor did I ever expect to see Viy making its way aboard anyone's list; good on you for surprising me with that one. I've been surrounded by Russians and Ukrainians the last four years, watching Viy was inevitable. Although I think Tony may have brought it to my attention first. Have you seen The Stuff? I heard about it in a trivia quiz and am curious to see it.

Have you seen The Stuff? I heard about it in a trivia quiz and am curious to see it. As a kid, ages ago. If memory serves, it sorta falls into the goofy B-satire category of horror/sci-fi comparable to Night of the Comet and Night of the Creeps, making it one of those types that was intended from the start with built-in cult appeal. It's since garnered such credit over the decades.

Got me thinking though... you understand, EJC, that we now have to do a Top 10 Neo-Noir.
On this occasion I'm going to exclude Blade Runner. It falls far enough into its own special category of Noir (neo, retro or otherwise) to the extent that I'm going to leave it there, allowing for my list to continue with more grounded contemporary settings. The genre overall can be a bit tricky in that it's often confused with straight(er) crime dramas, heist plots, erotic thrillers and action thrillers. Lines can blur a little bit while in other instance many a film has since been dimly included on purely superficial levels; paging The Dark Knight and John Wick. Neo-Westerns can often get thrown into the tangle as well, further complicating matters. So good luck to anyone attempting to sift.
10. Johnny Handsome 09. A History of Violence
08. The Bad Sleep Well 07. Basic Instinct
06. Seconds 05. 52-Pickup
04. The Driver
03. The Conversation
02. Mona Lisa
01. Thief

From your combined classic noir lists, I haven't seen 40%, I need to fix that.
And I noticed you both have The Big Sleep at #1. I know everything about this movie, and I know I've seen clips of it, but I can't remember if I've seen the whole thing all the way through. Guess I should make sure to fix that too.
On your neo noir list Ingram, I think I've only seen a few. I love Seconds and The Bad Sleep Well.

1. The Manchurian Candidate 2. Alphaville 3. Cape Fear 4. Experiment in Terror 5. Bulitt 6. A bout de souffle

05. The Outsiders: The Complete Novel
04. Youth Without Youth 03. The Conversation
02. Apocalypse Now Redux
01. Tucker: The Man and His Dream
I rank The Godfather (trilogy) not higher due almost entirely to its subject matter, as I've never been one lured by stories of the mafia or American crime families. Redux is objectively the superior of any of the Apocalypse Now versions—I'll fight anyone on this, bare-knuckled, hands dipped in glue then broken glass, whatever it takes; likewise for the extended and rescored cut of The Outsiders. Keanu Reeves' performance never for a minute bothered me in Dracula. In fact, I think it only adds to the heightened theater-play charm of that movie. I'm actually of a mind to sneak both Dementia 13 and The Rainmaker up the list just past aforesaid Puzo adaptations; one is indie horror schlock with an experimental edge, the other is mainstream '90s courtroom schlock with a consummate craftsman edge. Both are unpretentiously entertaining. I suppose I'll leave them where they are for now just to keep things civil. Youth Without Youth is possibly my personality test results writ dramatized, sad to say. Then again...
I love Tucker: The Man and His Dream. I champion it, aspire to it. The movie is at once such a silly, caramelized lite affair AND a profound gesture of classical American values. It's as elliptically strange as it is kitschy cosmetic. It succeeds precisely as intended taking the fewest essential steps. It's like King Vidor's The Fountainhead but, ya know, fun ...and also a great companion piece to Scorsese's The Aviator.
Speaking of Randian ambitions, Coppola has reportedly finished principle photography of his longest gestating passion project Megalopolis, a dystopian sci-fi Art Deco epic with an alleged 100 million-plus budget. Worth mentioning the man is 84 years old at this point. So I'm curious to see if this will play out with grand story structure & presentation or as some kooky overindulged 'old man' whimsy gone off the rails. I could feasibly dig it either way.

I prefer the Final Cut of Apocalypse Now. It was the first one I saw. I watched the Redux, and the scene with the girls in the helicopters felt like a departure from the trip the Final Cut had me on. I love the French plantation scene though which is still in the Final Cut.

Now it's 106 movies, arranged into triple features, more or less by release date. It focuses on the careers of George Lucas, Francis Ford Coppola, Steven Spielberg, Godfrey Reggio, and now Frank Oz. I made space for every movie that Lucas produced, both credited and uncredited. It includes Dragonslayer for its contributions by George Lucas and ILM, the Kurosawa pictures that Francis, George, and Spielberg helped finance and produce, and Joe Versus the Volcano, which is just a personal favorite of mine that so happens to be an Amblin production and a cult classic. There's also WALL-E in tribute to Ben Burt, a movie with strong THX 1138 vibes, and which wouldn't be possible without Pixar and ILM, and has a running time of 1:38:11. There don't seem to be anymore films on the horizon from these men, so I'm hoping this list is final, for my own mental health. (I have edited this list dozens of times since I made this post.) Any comments would be appreciated.

Tis the season... your Top 10 Favorite Christmas Films.
I'm encouraging an open-minded list that may deal in the subversive, raunchy or violent as well as the wholesome and schmaltzy. I'm also of the mind that selections may include films with Christmas as but a tangential backdrop or recurring motif, just so long as it's strong enough to leave a lasting "Christmasy" impression. Conversely, if you want go full unabashed cheesy holiday cheer by pulling from classic (or obscure) TV specials or even the damn Hallmark channel then don't let me stop you. And if you want to list The Star Wars Holiday Special... please leave.
10. Christmas Vacation 1989
09. Toys 1992
08. Gremlins 1984 07. It's a Wonder Life 1946
06. Trading Places 1983
05. Reindeer Games 2000 04. Meet John Doe 1941
03. White Christmas 1954
02. Lethal Weapon 1987
01. Die Hard 1988
And to celebrate in the spirit of, a 6-minute Supercut of the made-for-NBC Babes in Toyland circa 1986. An unintentionally hallucinogenic kitsch fest with walking oversized stuffed animals and shit, starring Drew Barrymore, Keanu Reeves and Mr. Miyagi as Santa Clause. Ya see, back in the '80s we all thought we were gonna die any minute from global thermal nuclear war, so...fuck it:

What, no Jingle All the Way?
My number one will always be Rankin Bass's The Stingiest Man in Town, with Walter Matthau as Scrooge. Home Alone 1 and 2 are probably the true answer, and by extension, the first Harry Potter carried on that John Williamsy Christmasy vibe. I would also be lying if I said Nightmare Before Christmas wasn't a truly solid Christmas movie. Edward Scissorhands, yes! The Santa Claus Movie I don't remember very well but I wanna see that again. I used to watch Disney's Babes in Toyland religiously at an awkward almost teenage age, like eleven. And really, my introduction to Star Wars was taping the original trilogy off the USA network, complete with Christmas commercials. And the next Christmas was no doubt spent with that trilogy vhs box set with the heads. Surely, when I cozy up to these movies, I really must be looking for the Christmas spirit that was lost with my childhood long ago.
And uh, you know, Elf.

I suspected something-something Harry Potter, The Sorcerer's (or is it Philosopher's) Stone at the very least, might show up. While the series was never my bag, that first one does indeed have a tinge of the Christmas atmosphere. Naturally Burton's Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas come as no surprise, and I see you on The Stingiest Man in Town. A distinct animated film from a distinct underrated legacy of animation that ran parallel to bigger Disney and Warner Bros. outings from the 1960s into the early '80s (though, spiritually, I'm a Hanna-Barbera man myself).
I am afraid however that I must unavoidably pick a fight here: I hate those Home Alone movies. I goddamn hate them, all the way from the very beginning as a kid seeing the first one new did I instantly chafe with it. I won't bother detailing why, as it's not relevant for the moment. Just know, Stamp, that I respect you metrically less now. I get it, I really do. Lucas' Star Wars will always be the stuff of May-into-Summer for me but I can definitely understand how the OT, especially, might lend itself to the cold, snowy, festively-lit month of December; the magical quality of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi in particular, with their comparably more complete space-fantasy milieu, cannot be denied.
For me it's the Star Trek feature films -- TOS and NextGen -- that fulfill a similar quota for similar reasons. I always sit down with them this time of year. I just finished The Search for Spock about 20-minutes prior to this post, in fact.

No Eyes Wide Shut? I am glad to see Gremlins on there though. And It's A Wonderful Life. I would say my #1 is Nightmare Before Christmas.
I saw Home Alone when it came out, I was 15. Rolled my eyes. I've always been a Catherine O'Hara fan though, growing up watching Second City reruns. Those movies and of course Harry Potter were just after my time.
It's interesting you guys mention SW and ST, for me it's Beatles movies. I marathon them from Thanksgiving to Christmas.
In 2005 a bunch of friends and I marathonned LotR extended editions during Christmas break, so those usually do it for me too.

Oh, I forgot The Preachers Wife with Denzel Washington. Which is that, the one where he goes on a revenge killing-spree against the Russian mafia or Mexican crime lords?
Speaking of Denzel + '90s, I think I'm gonna watch Ricochet. It's a ridiculous movie and I love it.

Well, I found 108 to be a useful number, so I arranged a six week setup, with six days a week, three movies a day. I was adding more from Amblin and ILM, and thought there was room for the Back to the Future trilogy, Jim Henson's last production The Witches (1990), and the Gremlins sequel, but it felt like the list was getting away from me. I also felt like Francis Ford Coppola was being slighted if I didn't include all his movies. So here it is again, in slightly different form, ORDER 1138: The THX Method.
WEEK 1
DAY ONE Battle Beyond the Sun (1962) The Terror (1963) Dementia 13 (1963)

DAY FOUR American Graffiti (1973) The Conversation (1974) The Sugarland Express (1974)
DAY FIVE The Godfather Part II (1974) Jaws (1975) Star Wars: A New Hope (1977)
DAY SIX Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) More American Graffiti (1979) Apocalypse Now (1979)
WEEK 2
DAY SEVEN The Black Stallion (1979) 1941 (1979) Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
