As in, Top 10s. They're fun. They're not important, at least not as some absolute metric. Rather, they can (even should) be flexible and great for conversation where one might want to dabble in something from another's list that perhaps they're unfamiliar with. The Other Topics forum being about movies, books, music, hobbies etc., I felt an easy way to initiate as much would be a thread where anyone either on occasion or whenever spurred might share their favorites list.
Top 10, 20, 13,131/2 or whatever number that comes right before ∞ ...doesn't matter.
For me, then, my...
Top 20 Favorite Filmmakers
Honorable Mentions: Peter Weir, John Frankenheimer, Orson Welles, Stanley Kubrick, Martin Scorsese, Terry Gilliam,
Richard Donner, George Miller, David Lynch, Carrol Ballard, Jonathan Glazer, King Vidor, Ang Lee, Tony Scott, Kelly Reichardt,
Jonathan Demme, Zack Snyder, Adrian Lyne, Jean-Jacques Annaud, Mamoru Oshii...
20. Robert Wise 19. Buster Keaton 18. James Whale 17. Sofia Coppola 16. James Cameron 15. Paul Verhoeven 14. Neil Jordan 13. John Milius 12. Walter Hill 11. Ridley Scott
10. John McTiernan 09. Michael Mann 08. Howard Hawks 07. FF Coppola 06. Walt Disney 05. Akira Kurosawa 04. John Carpenter 03. Steven Spielberg 02. George Lucas 01. Michael Curtiz
If you don't know that many filmmakers, don't worry about it and just list however many that rock your van.
And don't worry about fashion or identity politics. If you wanna list Michael Bay or Uwe Boll, make like Palpatine and do it!

Coppola,, Linklater, Welles, Lucas And yes, Buster Keaton!

I see Altman's on yours; just outta curiosity, then, where are you on Paul Thomas Anderson?

I see Altman's on yours; just outta curiosity, then, where are you on Paul Thomas Anderson? I've only seen The Master, and mostly all I remeber about it was that it was well directed. And Punch Drunk Love which I liked but would also need to see again sometime.

But in all honestly, I'm likely to indulge the likes of John Playford, Andrew Lawrence-King or David Douglass over the above, or even spin with some young beauty to estampie; something pre-15th. Color me a lowly peasant, then, or a highwayman in from the storm, enjoying whatever the local tavern.

My personal favourite from John Carpenter is The Fog. The atmosphere and cinematography are right up my alley.

Oo, I hadn't heard of Tanita Tikaram. Good stuff. Not the voice I was expecting when I saw her visage. (She reminds me a little of Winnie Cooper). And good call with Julie London. Reminds me I should add Dinah Shore to my list. What is it about those '40-50s songstresses that's so soothing? Makes me want to watch Attack of the Clones. I really should also include Patsy Cline. Cyndi Lauper was a big part of my childhood and I love her voice. I wanted to live in a Streamline trailer with her in the woods when I was 8. youtu.be/VdQY7BusJNUAnd good to see Björk. People tend to either really enjoy her or really not.

And good to see Björk. People tend to either really enjoy her or really not. Speaking of which, along with the value of batshit animation art from a neighboring thread, this:
My boy John K!
Not gonna lie, I am unabashedly nostalgic for this video. It is so atomically 1996, a mid-teenage year for yours truly. It was the perfect after-hour MTV viewing experience where my brain at that age could cut loose from the immediate stiffened realities of high school and living at home with the family. My older brother liked it because he crushed on Bjork but I simply dug it as a temporal headspace where I could just not give a fuck for a while ...along with other late-night cable television excursions into pop-oblivion.
Those days are over now.

Aria It's odd because if I didn't grow up in a cacophony of 80s/90s metal outright, it was certainly the closest thing to. And yet I'm not quite as savvy as I should be. Or, my interests drift between "heavy" and simply hard or "hair".
In no order:
Quiet Riot
Metallica Whitesnake
Slayer Scorpions
Dokken Judas Priest Rob Zombie Babylon A.D. Ratt
Except, I know there's more I'm missing at the moment.
