On my Shmi thoughts, I actually had a completely different idea on what her story would be. Shmi's development over the film(or films) will start from her being a baby to an adult(the former will be quick but will show you her relationship with her mother). There, you'd be able to see her life on her home planet before she was taken away.
The political aspect of the Skywalkers won't be be so involved as you all would like to think. I always had it in my own head that the mother would be heavy into politics while the family are supportive of her. They are more like their Father(who is laid back and simple). A senator or a representative. The reason why I use her as a key point is to drive home the Mother/Daughter dynamic that has yet to be brought into SW(Lucas wanted to do this with Indiana Jones and probably with the ST too). I'd presume that Shmi's mother would be loving and just of a woman but also very disconnected with her family. This leads Shmi to have a little bit of a "motherly" hole lacking in her heart like how Anakin struggled with it.
Of course there is so much more to it but that is one of the core themes in her story. Learning to be a mother and what that means.
It's basically an Inverse of Anakin's journey. Even more so, it would connect to Luke. Wanting to find a purpose in life...Fulfilling some sort of potential.

I thought you want to tell the story about how Shmi at all became a slave. Because is obvious for everyone that she wasn‘t born in slavery. About Vader story: yes, I wanted to show how little sparks begin to illuminate the ashes in his soul. As you can see, Vader in ANH is somehow inactive. Even many people make the mistake to think that he is too obedient. No, he just don‘t care about anything and anybody anymore (except maybe about the revenge against Obi Wan) and this means total desperation. He despises the Death Star and he is there only to fullfill Emperor‘s orders. But the possiblity to have a son alive, a gift from Padme begin to awake him. And all this plan in hiding prooves that Anakin indeed is not dead.

The first will be more so about her personal life and will transition into her being taken away from her home. The next movie will follow through with that and will end with her being in captivity by the Tuskens. Full circle:P

I think the unsung hero of the SW saga is Beru. I feel she must have played a big role in molding Luke into the kind of person he was, instilling many virtues in him. I would like to write a short tale of Luke when he's a boy and learning a life lesson from Beru's compassionate, salt of the earth wisdom, that is subtly reflected in the climax of RotJ.

I can't remember if this was done in some '90s comic or novel, or not, but I'd like to do the story of Han and the bounty hunter on Ord Mandell.
There would be other bounty hunters involved as well, finally closing in on Solo and Chewbacca, but Boba Fett uses his bag of tricks to throw the others off and pit them against each other. While Luke and co. try to help Han and outsmart Boba, but Boba isn't fooled easily and outsmarts Luke at his own game leaving him high and dry.
Same with Han too. Han eventually does get a tip-off that Boba Fett is hot on his trail, so he has to decide if he should do the thing Fett expects him to, or psych him out and do something unexpected. Or, does Han know Fett knows he's going to do something else?
I was also wondering if Boushh should be in it, or if that's too fan service-y. Maybe it was Boushh he ran into, not Fett. Like, Fett sub-contracted Boushh like Jango did Zam.
Or maybe Fett sends Boushh to cover one option, while he does the other.
And Han is actually able to get away because Dengar(?) swoops in trying to steal the prey, but botches everything up.

Sort of in the same vein as the books, Tales From The Cantina or Tales From Jabba's Palace, I'd like to do something on the tales of some of the Jedi who left the Order, The Lost Twenty. Just doing a handful, but going through some of the various situations and ordeals they went through, how it affected them, how the Council felt about it, their reasons for leaving, etc.

And of course this lesson Beru teaches Luke is something she learned from Shmi. So we have the through-line of Shmi to Luke who helped redeem Anakin.

I'd also like to take a stab at the conversation that was had at the dinner table in TESB with Vader, Han and Leia.
