Here's an idea I had last night:
I know this forum is primarily committed to a discussion-based mode of participation where formal analysis and commentary is encouraged and certainly preferred. But I was wondering if it wouldn't make sense to allow for at least one social thread in the main body of this forum where more casual and informal exchanges can take place. This occurred to me in the light of the premiere of the new season of 'The Mandalorian' and I think the series is a perfect occasion to add something to the board which would allow members to kick back and take part in more ephemeral interactions; especially over a series which blends familiar Lucas-era SW elements with new Disney-era ones. It'd be more about interaction than debate but the latter would be welcome too. And the thread's purpose would allow for more off-topic deviations and a perhaps refreshing degree of randomness and irreverence. It would also allow users to build greater bonds over a shared experience like this.
In short, I'd simply like for a space to be established that allows us all to experience and share in the thrill and hype of TM among other prequelists and this forum's other types of SW fans in a more relaxed setting. Just throwing this out there! Admins and others, please let me know what you think!

But I was wondering if it wouldn't make sense to allow for at least one social thread in the main body of this forum where more casual and informal exchanges can take place. I think a social thread is a fine idea. Since I haven't seen "The Mandalorian", however, and I'm in no particular hurry, I probably wouldn't participate much, but I support your proposal and don't see a problem with it. That said: if your aim is to have general chat built around that one show/item, wouldn't a regular thread suffice? Or is "The Mandalorian" an excuse -- or a carrot (of sorts) -- to get discussion going? Frankly, I think people should get creative with their thread ideas (but this is coming from a person with all of about five threads to his name!!!). I mean, really, this is a slow discussion space, but the sky's the limit! If a social thread is authorised, I hope it is given the "royal treatment" and pinned to the top of the forum; in whichever board (presumably, a Mandy-focused one would go in the "Disney Era" section) it is located within. But as for more casual talk generally, don't forget the "Other Topics" section. It's a bit of a "No Man's Land", but it's also the ideal place to talk about an array of topics that stray from Star Wars. Although, in a way, I feel we should have two sections like that: one that is purely "off topic", and one that is based around entertainment (TV shows, movies, music, books, and video games). So things remain a bit basic for now. The board is still in an early stage of development (although, alas, it looks like it may never progress beyond that). But yeah, if people want a relaxed "social thread" or two, why not?

Thanks for the support, Cryo! I think I'll go ahead and create the thread I have in mind very soon.
I envision a thread that's more vertical in nature and about snap responses and exchanges rather than the kind of thoughtful deliberation expected elsewhere on this forum ("Not that there's anything wrong with that!"). All of this the consequence of having greatly enjoyed TM's new season opener and realizing I didn't have a place to share enjoyment of it in a casual, offhand manner.
We'll see what happens!

Don't feel there only has to be one way to post

Thanks for the support, Cryo! I think I'll go ahead and create the thread I have in mind very soon. Go right ahead! I really hope your thread gets pinned. NF's first "social thread". TRIGGERED!!! Bitesize responses have their merits. I've thought about treating the TROS thread in a similar manner. Or at least (perhaps a little selfishly) turning it into "Cryo's Thought Castle Of Notes" (I may have already done this). But, of course, it's better when people ping back (well, uh... usually!). Good luck! I'm all in favour of you creating a fun new thread and sincerely attempting to sprinkle a little positivity. I won't lie: I've had my issues with casual, rapid-fire engagement in the past. But I do think versatility in "thread design" and "forum mood" are also good things.

Yes, a pinning would be nice. And I can see how this may be triggering to some (hilarious response, by the way!) but the thread's intended as a rather unintrusive, alternative option and not as a replacement to the predominant posting style of this fine forum by any means.
Anyway, it's now posted in "The Disney Era" subforum, everyone!

Of course! It's good when things supplement and complement -- rather than compete or outflank -- one another. Make love, not war. The Cryo of six months ago was maybe a little more bellicose, however. BTW, if you want to spruce up the thread with images (social threads seem built for that sort of thing), you could do worse than use Imgur. I only mention that site because it's: a) Really easy to use and I've been using it myself on here for image uploads. b) You can create an account, but you don't need to have one. This adds to its ease-of-use. c) Images that are uploaded to the service last there indefinitely. The claim is "forever". Hyperbolic, but at least it's a strong aim! d) There doesn't appear to be any serious loading or access issues at present with the service. e) In short: It's a million times better than Photobucket (and other crap alternatives or alternatives that start out okay and turn to crap over time). Subforum?! Why, I ought to... The Grand Daddy forum, if you please! Disney Star Wars is king. Accept no substitutes -- or "subforums"!!! Pah!!!

I knew it was a risky move. And by risky, I mean risking the thread looking like Somny's padded cell.
But yes, I agree about Imgur. I'll add your suggestion to the opening post of the thread. Thanks! "Your overconfidence is your weakness." Sub(lime)forum.

Is anyone else unable to sign on to freeforums/Proboards on Safari? For the last 2 or 3 months I just get, "Safari can't open this page because Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server..."
I can't even access the Apple website, on my Mac! Same problem.
Does anyone know why this would be?
I can only sign on here on my phone these days.
