Irvin Kershner: There's a love scene - we call it a love scene - it's actually a scene that leads to a kiss. Which is the equivalent of a major love sequence of another film. And the music is a very, very important part of it. It's integral to the scene because there are only about seven lines in the entire sequence. And the music is the dialogue in that particular scene. It tells us what she's feeling, because actually the two people are in open conflict, but the music says, "Ah, what you're seeing is maybe conflict, but that's a game, because actually, I think they're falling in love."
