I'd like to open up a conversation on the large film format, 70mm, and the "Gold standard" variant IMAX 15/70mm. Have any of you been to an IMAX screening (or equivalent) and what was your experience? I have not, there's none in my country, but I am very eager to experience it in the near future, when a suitable title arrives.
While I'm not terribly interested in IMAX as a company (they also make digital cameras - they're not the "film or nothing" diehards the internet thinks they are), I am intrigued by the large format itself and historic varieties like Ultra Panavision 70, VistaVision etcetera. I was particularly impressed with what Tarantino did for The Hateful 8. Feel free to share frames of films where you thought the format used by the director or cinematographer was interesting.
A brief video comparing:

I've found IMAX theaters to be ridiculously loud, to the point of it making the cinema experience kind of uncomfortable. But then again I am kind of sensitive to loud noise.
The image quality is superb

Are you referring to auditoriums with the 70mm presentation? Its come to my attention in recent weeks that IMAX also make digital projectors that operate in the US, so we should probably retire "IMAX" as a synonym for the large film format to avoid confusion. They have their paws in both pies. 70mm theatres appear to be rare enough, sadly.
I'm all for projector and camera manufacturer competition in all formats.
