Hey guys! So lately a little project of mine was to collect the various essays published in the amazing fan-run online academic journal devoted to Star Wars, Saga Journal, which lasted from 2004 to 2010 and is full of the most amazingly insightful content. Some of you may remember some of the stuff on there, I know Cryogenic has sometimes mentioned the work of lazypadawan, who was also my introduction to the journal through her amazing essay on Padmé, The Perils of Padmé. The material from Saga Journal, including that essay, was virtually lost from the internet and I felt that was a situation that couldn't be allowed to continue so I've gathered together all of the essays, save one, back together again, using the Internet Archive, for people to read once more. From literary analysis, to historical connections, to mythological resonances, there are features on every aspect of the six films. They are really of amazing value and I'm sure they would be of interest to virtually everyone here.
I've posted the full archive in two places.
I really think the material in Saga Journal is amazing and I myself am still going through the trove of insightful essays they produced. If you guys want to use this thread to discuss essays of interest in it, or even memories of Saga Journal itself, feel free to! If you read one and want to comment on it, this is the perfect place.
I myself have been impressed by some of the essays about Padmé on there, in particular about the Jungian symbolism of the decline of the feminine/anima in the galaxy as the prequels reach their conclusion, and also on Anakin and his psychology. There is one great essay I've been going through which is very fascinating, about the courtly romance between Anakin and Padmé and its connections to the medieval courtly traditions (The Romance of Anakin and Padmé). I have my eye on a lot more I'll be going through in there too, and I welcome you guys to join me! The insightful work of these authors still resonates to this day, and I couldn't think of a better home for a spotlight on it than here on Naberrie Fields.
I've posted the full archive in two places.
- First, I posted it on Reddit, where you can find links and descriptions of all the essays here.
- Second, I did make a little thread for it on TheForce.Net, which you can find here, if you prefer that way.
