So on the Anniversary of The Release of TESB what are your thoughts on Producer Gary Kurtz the Man who produced the first 2 (and some would only good) Star Wars Films?

I dunno. Seems to have been a good, decent person whom many of the cast and crew got along with and genuinely liked. It may also never be clear in terms of precisely what happened between Lucas and Kurtz on TESB, whether it was something of a mutual parting or whether Kurtz became the fall guy and a scapegoat for Lucas' frustrations. I've just never really delved into the histories and personalities of the various Star Wars/LFL producers all that much. They are all something of an enigma. On the other hand, J.W. Rinzler wrote what is, by many accounts, an excellent biography on Howard Kazanjian, which was published a few months after Rinzler's untimely death in July last year.

Kurtz seems like he was a great producer, of the very 'hands-on' breed, but as Lucas became more independent it just worked more conducively to move away from that kind of system. It's too bad their relationship slowly crashed and burned in the awkward and tense way it did. But Lucas seemed to have found someone perfect for him and LFL in Rick McCallum.
