I think this hasn't been discused here, but as far of famous criticism with the prequels is George Lucas suposedly being a horrible director director, is well know he is specially a visual director, having an emphasis of being able to tell the story visually.
When people defend Hayden Christensen as an actor, there is a sector of people that, to the defense conssit on throwing the hatred to George´s appalling directing.
Aparently George let the actors to improvise to make their character theirs, and while he tell them to have a very expressive body language, convening all the emotion on it but not giving waht emotions are behind these expressions, and with the improvise stuff, he throws them into the scenery without anything to work with, looking "lost" in the process and by that, wooden or lifeless.
I have seen someone say that when Anakin looks Padme in a way he makes her uncomfortable, he looks like a creepy stalker because hayden wan't told anything and when trying to imitate john hughes, he looks like that.
Another is when Obi Wan and Anakin are discussing if they msut just protect Padme or trying to capture the assassin,This shows the contrast in theeir ways of thinking, Anakin being someone who "thinks outside of the box" while Obi Wan tries to follow the rules to the letter. The way Anakin delivers his reasoning makes hiim look arrogant and brat, making a bad impression in the audience an having it during the rest of the movie, not matter how is shows that Anakin was right into thinking different (like the way he manages to reach Zam Wezzel following an alternative route to catch her instead of just following without losing eye contact).
These are arguments I found, not my reasoning, as someone who have no idea of filmaking. Don't know how much is true the affirmation that Geeorge is an awful director an that's why good actors are wasted.
