If anyone has the Criterion Channel, most of Kurosawa's films are there, except for some of the latter ones of his career

Just finished Ran; what a tremendous movie; it really feels like this was Kurosawa firing on all cylinders, similar to what George did in ROTS

I was just thinking about this. I need to catch up with my Kurosawa movies. Should I start with his later movies like Kagemusha and Ran. Or should I go with his older ones? For a while there I thought his older ones were also free on some sites like Tubi or Pluto, but anyways...

I think his older ones are a better starting point, where you get to see how he develops his ideas as time goes on. Throne of Blood is based on Macbeth, serving as a precursor in the Shakespearean tragedy he later goes back to. Yojimbo is a good starting point, as that is the most "Western" of his films, and subsequently it gets easier to get into his style of filmmaking and his portrayal of Japanese culture etc.
