no offense
A phrase used to make insults seem socially acceptable.
"No offense, John, but your mom is a fucking whore." "You've got huge bitch tits, Patrick... no offense."
by bryan September 11, 2004
It works in basically the same way as "to be perfectly honest" and "with all due respect". The worst kind of prequel defence is, indeed, a qualified one that incorporates weasel words and gaslighting concepts, along the lines, "We all know the prequels are awful, but..."

That's not untrue, but there's something unique about "no offence" in the US pop culture field. "with all due respect" is a more high brow way of saying that. A bit more British, more working professional than what goes on on the playground.
"no offence" has all the fakery attached to it, if that makes any sense.

Welcome hernalt ! It's always nice to get new members, and if you're anything like the folks that joined last year, we sure are in for a treat. In other news: we now have a real-life Palpatine on the loose in Europe. Surreal times.
Slava Ukraini!

Gotta admit: I love your new avatar. Solidarity with the Ukraine! Palpatine immediately flashed into my mind, too. The situation has briefly been discussed at work (two of my colleagues are Polish and another is from Belarus). At times like these, I feel my inner "Anakin vs. the Tuskens" and "Mace vs. Palpatine" rising up: Can't someone cut that bastard's head off and flush it down the toilet? Let us be done with vile, scheming despots who bring suffering on their own people, and who bully other nations with their psychotic, insatiable expansionist aims, once and for all.

Naboo and the Galactic Republic. Ukraine and Europe. Palpatine and the Republic's separatists. Putin and the Ukraine separatists.
My fellow forum members, as the the Ukrainian President Zelenskey makes his desperate pleas for help from a capital under siege, it has become all too difficult not to be reminded of Queen Amidala's own pleas in front of the Galactic Senate. Deaf ears and selfishness abound.
What does it mean to be a member of the Galactic Republic? What does it mean to be an integral part of Europe? If solidarity requires us to take a personal financial hit, are we willing to accept this? What does it mean to stand by idly from the sidelines, and be neutral? What does it mean to be a part of a human community? What can ordinary people do in the face of overwhelming military might? Is Ukraine or Naboo really the end goal of the invading force, as we are told, or does it seek to go further? Does autocracy seek to rewrite the very fabric of international law and order? Everywhere we turn we will be met with these most profound of questions, in the coming days, weeks, months, even years.
I consider the prequels to be the greatest political allegory of modern popular cinema. It is something I will always proudly profess. And we are now, with great regret, seeing its prophesies come to pass.

I won't be surprised if the situation in Ukraine emboldens China to make its move on Taiwan.

I was looking through Alexrd 's excellent visual blog Star Wars Lucasverse and I came across the following image: In conjunction with the screencaps posted above, it seems really apt at the moment (palace in darkness and the blue-and- yellow colour scheme). Perhaps we could even change the forum banner in some fashion to show solidarity with the Ukraine? All of Europe is potentially compromised and threatened by Putin's actions here. I also read the following news item on BBC News yesterday, and in it, a Ukrainian resident described the shelling in Kharkiv (the country's second city) as "something like Star Wars above your head": www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-60543087

I love that painting. I'm down for another rotation in the banner and whatever else.
Not sure how much I can do with my limited devices, it may be all up to Alex.

Cryogenic I agree, a change would be nice, and that is a delightful banner.
Cyber warfare against the Western World would now seem to be inevitable, though I doubt our relatively obscure website, with a tiny fraction of the audience of major forums like Reddit, would ever be targeted. On saying that, however, I'd prompt our administrator to remain vigilant for any possible bad actors. As he lives in Czechia in Central Europe, a country not so far from the warzone, I trust that he will be.
We must keep our door open to ordinary Russian commenters and lurkers. This is first and foremost Putin's war, and as we can see from the courageous protesters in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities, not everyone is up for a reckless, bloody war against Ukraine, in which many have friends and family living in.
