Just saw Wicked, twice. I didn't see this coming as I never saw the stage production, or thought much of it. Ho-lee shit. What a time to be alive. Do yourself a favor and just go see it. Take your kids. This simply wont be the same on a small screen. It looks like a billion dollars and it pulls no punches. I cried numerous times, through the credits, and afterwards. I always thought Ariana Grande was a comic genius the few times I saw her on Nickelodeon playing the dumb blonde, but she was born to play Glinda in this story. The second half comes out next year, and they've set the bar really high. I'm gonna have to save myself from spoilers. As a life-long fan of screen villains, this was more than anything I could ever have expected. It puts Joker to shame, and I consider that thing a perfect movie and legitimate cultural event. Even if you're not a fan of the musical (the music itself isn't my favorite, but as a vehicle for the words, it does its job), I think you could fully enjoy it purely as a big-budget spectacle. Don't wait for it to come to video. This is what the screen was meant for. Anybody else see it yet? Knowing stamp, this post could easily be his satirical review for the Onion. In other words, not sure if serious. xD

I'm not joking though. I didn't see it coming because the Broadway musical frankly was never interesting to me. The music itself is just not my taste, though as a lyricist I can't knock the words. There's some genuine depth in this story that just wasn't accessible to me until it came in the form of an big bombastic movie like this. It's just a rare example of when source material is treated with enough care that its appeal becomes clear to a general audience. This particular screaming head on youtube captures my thoughts just about word for word. youtu.be/0Zy-B8nBg10 (I think she's great btw) Also, I saw Wild Robot last night which pissed me off, what a piece of shit safe generic baby movie. Curse all the good reviews that made me question my instincts. I also saw The Heretic which had some fascinating moments, including a monologue where Hugh Grant's character reveals himself to be a Star Wars prequel fan.

Just came back from seeing Gladiator 2- thought it was great! Denzel really steals the show
"My name is Sir Ridley Scott, commander of the Order of the British Empire. Maker of the TRUE Gladiator, the one I made in 2000. Father to a murdered Alien franchise, husband to a murdered Napoleon film, and I will have my paycheques, in this life and the next"
Saw it last night, Tuesday night. Honestly...
...I thought it mildly rocked. Uneven, awkwardly paced through the midsection, but nonetheless robustly entertaining.
Scott's 86 years old. My hat is tipped.

Wicked is definetly a movie that has blindsided me. It isn't the sort of movie I'd expect to do so well both critically and with general audiences. It gives off Disney remake vibes to me, none of which worked for me. Like you with the Wild Robot, my instincts are telling me I won't like it, but everyone else is saying the opposite. But, hey, I have been wrong before.
It doesn't help that Wicked was directed by the same guy who made Crazy Rich Asians ( a very okay movie).
I will definitely watch Heretic just for the Prequel fan moment ahahaha.

Finished seeing the 1995 remake of Sabrina- I must confess a bit of a heretical opinion, but I think it's better than the 1954 one ( I can hear Smitty shouting all the way from Canada as I type this) but em, let's face it; Bogart was too old to be playing Audrey Hepburn's lover in the original. Really a misfire that Billy Wilder didn't get Cary Grant for the Linus role. Harrison Ford in the remake is really good, proving he's one of the few actors of the contemporary era who could have made it in the Golden Age, Hays Code era.' Also John Williams does a great job with the theme
Kidding aside, I have never seen the Sabrina remake (with the exception of a clip of one scene, which compared to Billy Wilder's tasteful direction just came across as tacky to me). Not to mention going from Audrey to another actress is pretty much guaranteed to kill it right out of the gate, at least for me. This would be like remaking the Prequels and recasting Padme. I just can't.
But hey, maybe one day I will watch the remake just for a lark. The one good thing I can say is that Harrison Ford is very much our era's Bogart, so that casting choice is ace.

The whole scene where Rose, with the help of Jack's ghost, escapes from the sealed engine room was unrealistic, I thought; thermite doesn't burn through steel that quickly ...but otherwise, yes, Archduke, I did in fact enjoy Titanic II: Lusitania.
