Wasn't it some kind of waste disposal shaft that he fell in, so maybe the ship or whatever that took out the trash left before anyone went down there to look?
I'm not sure how he would go about his, uh, business, but I'm guessing the dark side is keeping him aggressive, since it's the thing that's keeping him alive in the first place, fueled by his hatred of Obi-Wan.

Since Maul was going to be the main villain of the ST, I wonder what he would have been doing all the while during the OT era in Lucas' story. I guess training Darth Talon in secret and waiting for the fall of Palpatine's Empire? I also wonder if Maul would have featured in the Underworld series. Thematically it feels like Lucas was building towards that series with The Clone Wars. It's interesting how the prequels mostly concerned themselves with high society, while TCW moved slightly more towards the underworld aspect of gangsters and scoundrels seen in the originals. Then Underworld would continue this theme, and so would Lucas' ST.

Has anyone interacted with chatGPT in the space of Lucas' authorized sequel?

I like to daydream and speculate about potential directions Lucas' sequels might have taken based on the little info he gave in the Archives book. So let's recap and theorize: Maul would have been in hiding in the bowels of Coruscant. There was that cancelled TCW arc about a Sith Temple on a lower level of Coruscant under the structure of the Jedi Temple. Maybe Maul would have been based there? And maybe he would have found some ancient knowledge that gave him further power over the dark side, explaining why he looks like a Sauron-esque shadow in the famous concept art. Maybe he became so powerful, that he somehow affected the Whills themselves, bringing them into the fold. Perhaps through his disruptive dark side acts, he motivated the Whills into action, which in turn would influence Luke to restart the Jedi. The balance of the light and dark side would again be threatened, and Luke's actions, taking young children to be trained, would be in an effort to tip the balance back towards the light. That is how I imagine the more ethereal, Force-based side of the story going. Then there's the political climate of the galaxy, with the remnants of the Empire in disarray. Maul would be a key player here too, controlling vast swathes of the criminal underworld. With the Empire gone and the New Republic just in a nascent state at this point, he would control much of the galaxy. On this front, Leia would indeed be the "chosen one," rebuilding the Republic up from scraps, and combating Maul's organization. In the end, Luke, through a thorough exploration and understanding of the ways of the Whills, and Leia, through politics, would defeat Maul and his criminal empire. Or that's what I'd like to think.
