That's so fucking awesome that Japanese Spidey is going to be in Across the Spider-verse. Now there's a movie I'm excited for!

I could never empathise 100% with the Americans in these shows, however. The level of wealth on display, with these big spacious homes and all the latest consumer goods, was way beyond what we Europoors were used to (even if we were still wealthier than Russians or South Americans). I had the distinct impression that being from a millionaire family in the USA was normal, and it made me a tad envious.
As an American who grew up in a lower working-class family, I can assure you the sentiment wasn't any different here stateside. Easy enough to say the Huxtables had a bigger, nicer house than we did, but even the damn Connors and Bundys had bigger houses; at least theirs was two-story.
I don't recall the white working class being a big staple in shows aimed at younger audiences. As far as I could tell, every family had a millionaire (or at least knew one), unless you were black or indigenous, though why those two were excluded was an unexplained mystery that you never really questioned.
American suburbia was a far more tangible symbol of its global pre-eminence than any military statistic or parade could hope of achieving. It telegraphed a degree of prosperity and ostentatiousness available not only in New York but throughout a continent-spanning nation. While for historians the 2000s may go down as the decade where the US lost its status of untouchability, for me at least, as a child, it felt like American soft power was going from strength to strength. I mean, hey, they were making a new Star Wars trilogy, who else could do that? Who cared if they were getting into Vietnam 2.0.

You know it is a 90's children's show when there is some environmentalism thrown in. "It looks totally far out and funky down the drain dude." - Kimberley, always with the best lines.
To further reinforce my point:

Sounds like she spotted the Ninja Turtles. LOL. Anyway, darn! I remember that episode! OMG, flashbacks. Must plough through all the episodes (in order) soon. At the moment, though, I'm still quite gutted about the death of JDF. It's not gonna be the same without that dude.

The official Power Rangers channel on YouTube also now has a short but touching video tribute to JDF:
Title: Once A Ranger, Always A Ranger | Jason David Frank 1973 - 2022 Channel: Power Rangers Official Uploaded: 23 Nov 2022
Description: Ranger Nation, we mourn together. Today, we celebrate the heart, strength, and raw talent that Jason David Frank brought to Power Rangers as Tommy Oliver. We’re inspired by all of the beautiful tributes to JDF that have been shared over the last few days. He was truly a legend among us and we will miss him. May the Power protect him, always.

Not blaming his wife here, but damn, when things go sideways with a woman it can really get to a man, can't it?

Not blaming his wife here, but damn, when things go sideways with a woman it can really get to a man, can't it? I'm just imagining some of the harsh things that could have been said. I've kinda been there before. Of course, when you're in an argument with someone you used to profoundly like, share a history with, and/or still have feelings for, anger can really interfere and cause you to say things that either are untrue or true but said in a very unkind way; in the heat of anger, all proportionality is lost and the truth becomes a terrible weapon.

Yup, when you know someone very well and they know you well, both of you know exactly where the other person's weak spots are.

Yup, when you know someone very well and they know you well, both of you know exactly where the other person's weak spots are. Each person is both rebel and Death Star with a fatal weak point! And now we know it's all the fault of Galen Erso.

But, according to Anakin, it is all Obi-Wan's fault!

Interesting. Thanks for that new link, Joe. The full interview appears here: people.com/tv/jason-david-frank-wife-reveals-power-rangers-star-died-by-suicide/So now we have conflicting accounts of what happened. First, from the link I posted the other day: And from the interview stemming from your link this evening: It's hard to say where the truth lies (notice that play on words here), but maybe it's somewhere in-between the two accounts. Perhaps, they really did generate a noise complaint because of "having some fun", and maybe no harsh words were exchanged. On the other hand, maybe hers and JDF's definitions of "heartfelt and emotional talk" differ. She might recall or want to put across the notion of them having a benevolent, respectful exchange, but it's also possible she was being hard-hearted and tough on her husband, and maybe she indicated needing more time or expressed a desire not to fully reconcile with him. Something like this, while short of a blazing row, could have had a devastating effect on JDF. Of course, it's just speculation, but something doesn't quite add up here. As is often the case with suicides and sudden passings, we may never know what really happened.

This song cuts deep in 2022. Yeah, that does hit a little harder now. See? "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" wasn't just a glorified toy commercial. There were some real human emotions goin' on.

Yes, the whole toy commercial thing is very reductionist. It can serve that purpose while at the same time telling a story. Artists have a funny way of making great stuff despite the intentions of their financial overlords.
