Things you associate with Star Wars… Cryogenic. Nice to be appreciated! I, of course, associate Star Wars -- or very much the PT and the ST, at least -- with Pyrogenic. With us! I associate Star Wars with various people. George Lucas (obviously). John Williams (duh). Ben Burtt. Ralph McQuarrie. Doug Chiang. Trisha Biggar. Nick Gillard. John Knoll. Rob Coleman. Phil Tippett. Denis Muren. Rick McCallum. Kathleen Kennedy. J.J. Abrams. Rian Johnson. Dave Prowse. Kenny Baker. Anthony Daniels. Peter Mayhew. Warwick Davis. Frank Oz. Ahmed Best. Mark Hamill. Harrison Ford. Carrie Fisher. Liam Neeson. Ewan McGregor. Jake Lloyd. Pernilla August. Hayden Christensen. Natalie Portman. Samuel L. Jackson. Ian McDiarmid. Christopher Lee. Peter Cushing. Oscar Isaac. Daisy Ridley. John Boyega. Billy Dee Williams. Jonathan Rinzler. To name some of the more obvious ones... Oh, and for reasons that will take longer to unpack: Elvis. Starting with the number 42.

And on the payroll of the Trade Federation, I might add.

The Phantom MenaceI was super heavy into Episode I and thought about it almost constantly for at least a year. In June of 1999 my favorite band Pavement released their 5th (and ultimately last) album Terror Twilight, which I listened to 3-5 times a day for a few months, then a few times a week for the ensuing year or two. Needless to say these two things became completely intermeshed in my mind to the Nth degree. Even to this day anytime I listen to this album or hear even one song, images and memories of TPM, and even Pod Racer on N64, and the spring/summer of '99 come flooding into my mind. Another funny thing about Pavement's 1999 album Terror Twilight is at 2:45 of this song, there's a sound that sounds just like a podracer. Really close to Sebubla's actually. I always got a kick outta that.

I was also captivated by The Beach Boys' album Pet Sounds in the late '90s and early '00s, so I'd include this with Episodes I and II together. Incidentally, Pet Sounds, The Beach Boys' most ambitious, emotionally layered album yet, was released on May 16th, 1966, and was given a very mixed reception by fans and critics. Only to eventually be heralded as one of the most brilliant and influential pop/rock albums of all time, many years later. 36 years later, on that day, Attack Of The Clones was released... I think the opening track fits Anakin's mentality towards Padmé pretty well, by the way. Actually, most of the songs do.
